As the Lunar New Year approaches, banks are continuously experiencing problems with customers unable to log into banking apps for long periods of time.
BIDV, Techcombank and TPBank are banks that have recently encountered app errors and cannot log into their e-banking applications.
Most recently, from about 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on January 22, BIDV customers were unable to log in to the BIDV SmartBanking application to make online transactions.
Many customers have been unable to pay via BIDV's app during this time. The more they try, the more they receive notifications with different content. Sometimes it is "the connection to the system is interrupted, please try again later"; then it changes to "BIDV will upgrade the SmartBanking system from 6:00 p.m. on January 22, 2025 to 9:30 p.m. on January 22, 2025. During this time, SmartBanking service may be interrupted...".
However, BIDV announced maintenance without prior notice. Customers going to the supermarket or shopping for Tet could not pay, and had to log in many times and then receive maintenance messages.
The unstable login situation for BIDV banking app lasted for many hours while the demand for payment at the end of the year increased. Until nearly midnight of the same day, many customers were still "bewildered" asking each other on BIDV's fanpage.
Some customers think that when the app has an error or the system is upgraded or maintained, the bank should have an official announcement so that customers can feel secure.
Because, apart from the information displayed on the app, BIDV does not have any announcement on the bank's fanpage or website about this maintenance plan.
VietNamNet has contacted BIDV but has not received a response on this matter.
Previously, on January 16, Techcombank customers also faced a similar situation when they could not log in to the banking application. This prevented customers from making money transfers or other transactions.
Because the incident happened at noon, many people joked: “Many Techcombank customers went to lunch but did not dare to stand up.” Fortunately, the incident only lasted for a short time.
However, the biggest problem with the banking app recently happened to TPBank. From the night of December 11, 2024, TPBank customers could not make transactions because they could not access the TPBank application. This problem lasted for 23 hours and was not resolved until late at night on December 12, 2024.
Many customers said they also encountered awkward situations when they could not make payment, while the delivery staff (shipper) had arrived to deliver the goods.
Payment overload due to the sudden increase in payment demand at the end of the year is said to be the main reason for the interruption of transactions in banking apps.
Besides major incidents, sporadic incidents still occur with banking applications at the end of the year. The story that recently made waves on social networks was that a customer was unable to log into the banking app to pay for a plate of stir-fried vermicelli at 4am and had to accept a loan of several million dong through another banking application to have money to pay the vermicelli shop owner.
After a series of recent incidents with banking apps, the online community shared their experience that one should open accounts at at least 2 banks and maintain balances in both accounts in case one of the two accounts has an error or incident, so that users do not fall into the ridiculous situation above.
