Users reported that their Facebook and Messenger accounts were suddenly logged out and could not be accessed again, both on the app and web versions.

At 10:30 p.m., many people's Facebook and Messenger accounts were suddenly logged out when using them on computers and phones. Despite trying to log back in, the browser kept reporting "website unavailable, link broken or deleted."

"I thought my computer was hacked so I switched to texting using the phone app but my account was also kicked out and I couldn't log in," said Que Chi (HCMC). She switched to the Instagram app to update the situation but the app also reported "Unable to download news".

"People are panicking and calling each other to check and see if their accounts have been taken over. Some people advise not to try to log in, as their passwords might be stolen. I don't know what's going on," said Tu Anh (Hanoi).

On Downdetector, a tool that monitors the status of Internet services, after only 10 minutes from around 10:30 p.m., the number of error reports from users of Meta platforms in many regions around the world jumped to nearly 400,000, including Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, Threads, but WhatsApp was not affected. According to 9to5mac , Meta Quest users were also logged out, causing the virtual reality game Horizon Worlds to stop working.

The number of Facebook error reports reached more than 300,000 at 10:30 p.m. on March 5.

Not only in Vietnam, hundreds of thousands of users around the world said they could not access again and had to go to other social networks and messaging services such as X, Telegram, Viber... to report. Some even had to use traditional phone calls and SMS to maintain contact.

The situation of users switching to other messaging platforms has caused some services to be overloaded. At nearly 11 p.m., many Zalo users in Vietnam reported having difficulty texting, especially on the web version. "I read Zalo messages from friends complaining about Messenger's problems. But when I texted back, the system kept reporting an error that it could not send," said Minh Khanh (Hanoi).

In addition to the service for individual users, the business tool Workplace was also disrupted. "The incident happened at night, so it only affected a small part of the company. I can't imagine what the consequences would have been if it had happened during office hours," said Anh Duy, a technician at a company in Hanoi, adding that he had to send a reassuring email to the entire company.

Andy Stone, head of communications at Meta, confirmed on social network X at 10:50 p.m.: "We know people are having trouble accessing Meta services. We are working to resolve the issue right now."

By 11:20 p.m., Meta's services had gradually recovered, but operations were still unstable. However, data on the Meta Business incident reporting page at 11:40 p.m. showed that business tools such as Ads Manager, Facebook & Instagram Shops, Meta Business Suite, and Graph API were still in an interrupted state.

At 1am on March 6, Facebook's official account spoke out for the first time, but did not provide any explanation: "We're back. Sorry to anyone who couldn't access Facebook today." Meanwhile, Andy Stone added that the problem stemmed from "a technical error", but did not elaborate.

A similar Meta outage occurred in 2021, when a number of the company's services were inaccessible across all platforms and in many regions globally for six hours. At the time, Meta said the problem was due to a "configuration error" in the system. In 2019, the web version of Facebook was also offline for 24 hours.
