Bui Vi Hao just played for the Vietnamese national team during FIFA Days last March. He played in the second half of the friendly match that won 2-1 against Cambodia on March 19 at Go Dau Stadium.
Returning to B.Binh Duong Club, Vi Hao was injured during a training session on March 27 to prepare for the match against Phu Dong Ninh Binh Club in the quarter-finals of the 2024-2025 National Cup. After a high-speed dribble, Vi Hao turned the ball back and was injured, lying on the ground in pain.
Initially, the doctor of B.Binh Duong Club diagnosed Vi Hao with a sprained ankle. But the injury seemed to get worse, forcing the 22-year-old striker to use crutches when moving.
However, the doctor had to wait for Vi Hao's ankle to reduce swelling and fluid before taking him for an MRI scan in Ho Chi Minh City on the morning of March 31 for accurate results. The result was that he had torn his ankle ligaments and had to undergo surgery.
B.Binh Duong Club doctor Dang Hieu Hao said: "Vi Hao has torn the main ligament of his ankle. This week, he will have surgery after completing the procedures. This injury is similar to a knee ligament, so Vi Hao will need 6-8 months to recover."

With this injury, Vi Hao will have to sit out the entire 2024-2025 season. This is obviously not good news for coach Nguyen Cong Manh, as he is the second best domestic striker in the team after striker Tien Linh.
Meanwhile, B.Binh Duong Club is striving to achieve results in the 2024-2025 National Cup (already in the semi-finals) and the 2024-2025 V-League (ranked 5th with 21 points, 7 points behind the top team Nam Dinh).
For coach Kim Sang Sik, Vi Hao's injury also makes the Korean coach worried, as he is also a quality striker in both the Vietnamese national team and U22 Vietnam.
The Vietnamese team will meet their main opponent Malaysia in the second round of the final qualifying round for the 2027 Asian Cup next June. Without naturalized striker Nguyen Xuan Son, coach Kim Sang Sik is now also without Vi Hao.
Meanwhile, U22 Vietnam will participate in the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers in September, as well as the 33rd SEA Games at the end of the year. If he does not recover soon, Vi Hao may be absent from both tournaments.
