Don't forget to have regular health checkups.

Báo Thái BìnhBáo Thái Bình04/08/2023

Regular health check-ups play an important role in protecting yourself, detecting diseases and treating them promptly. However, many people are still indifferent and do not pay enough attention to regular health check-ups. They only go to a medical facility when their body shows signs of abnormalities with obvious symptoms.

People register for medical examination at medical facilities.

Indifferent to regular health check-ups
Being busy with work, subjectively thinking that the disease is simple and not going for a health check-up, finding a doctor on Google, hearing from word of mouth or borrowing a prescription from someone with the same symptoms to treat themselves... are the reasons and also the ways many people choose instead of going for a regular health check-up. Therefore, many cases have paid a high price, when going to the hospital for examination, the disease is too serious.

With only a symptom of severe cough, patient PTH, Quynh Ngoc commune (Quynh Phu) went to the Provincial General Hospital for examination, discovered that he had stage 4 cancer. The patient is currently being treated at the Oncology Center, Provincial General Hospital. Patient PTH shared: I rarely go to the KSK. When I coughed a lot and went to the hospital, the disease was already at stage 4. Knowing that, I would have gone to the KSK and received treatment sooner. I hope everyone tries to go to the KSK regularly, know the disease and treat it promptly, don't let it get worse like me.

PTH patients are not rare cases. Doctor Pham Thu Huong, Deputy Head of the Examination Department, Provincial General Hospital said: There are patients who come to us with very serious complications. For example, musculoskeletal diseases. When patients have bone and joint pain, they go to the doctor for examination and treatment. If they follow the correct treatment plan, the disease will gradually recover, not immediately. However, listening to other people's advice or believing in instructions on the internet, many people buy medicine and treat themselves. After a while, when they return for examination, the disease has very serious complications, affecting the heart, blood pressure, and skin. Therefore, we recommend that people with common diseases with mild symptoms should monitor their health at home. However, if monitoring and treating symptoms at home for about 1-2 days does not improve, or even gets worse, they must go to a medical facility immediately. People who have been diagnosed with chronic diseases should have regular medical check-ups at reputable medical facilities to have an effective treatment plan, avoiding unfortunate complications that may occur.

Periodic health check-ups play an important role in helping people detect diseases, treat them effectively, and reduce treatment costs. However, many people's awareness of health check-ups is not adequate. In the outpatient department of hospitals, the rate of people going for periodic health check-ups is still limited, most of them only do general, periodic health check-ups when they have a certain disease.

Make a habit of regular health check-ups to avoid getting sick too badly.
Dr. Pham Thu Huong added: Diseases that were previously common in the elderly can now be found in young people. There are many packages for periodic health check-ups, but medical facilities often offer a basic, minimally invasive package. The basic package includes a clinical examination, asking about the patient's medical history and symptoms, and relying on medical techniques such as looking, touching, tapping, and listening to detect preliminarily visible diseases on the outside such as the skin, mucous membranes, etc. In addition, people will be able to perform paraclinical techniques such as blood and urine tests, checking vital functions, biochemical functions of the kidneys, liver, and metabolic organs, electrocardiogram, chest X-ray, abdominal ultrasound, etc.

KSK will be divided by age. From 16 years old and up, KSK should be periodically done with the basic package. In addition to the basic package, from 16 to 30 years old, screening for infectious diseases and diseases related to pre-marital reproductive health is recommended. From 30 to 40 years old, priority should be given to screening for diseases related to metabolism, endocrine diseases, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancers. Women should be screened for breast and cervical cancer, men should be screened for prostate cancer. For people from 50 years old and up, screening for cancer and metabolic diseases should be carried out more closely in both men and women.

Mr. Vu Van Loi in Tran Hung Dao ward, Thai Binh city had a periodic health check-up at the Provincial General Hospital.

After being consulted by doctors and understanding the importance of regular health check-ups, many people have taken the initiative to go for check-ups. Due to his advanced age and underlying medical conditions, Mr. Vu Van Loi in Tran Hung Dao Ward, Thai Binh City, always goes for check-ups to check and monitor his health status. He shared: Due to his advanced age, his health often fluctuates. I also have cardiovascular disease. When I go for check-ups, the doctors test, diagnose, and give timely treatment instructions. I think everyone should maintain regular health check-ups, so that the disease can be detected early and treated promptly.

As society develops, the disease structure changes. In addition to acute diseases, infectious diseases have very silent symptoms such as endocrine diseases, metabolic diseases, diabetes or cancer. Therefore, doctors recommend that people should have periodic health check-ups 1-2 times a year, with a 6-month interval between the 2 examinations.
