Making "Hanoi Autumn" an attractive tourist destination

Destinations, craft villages, tourism companies, management and promotion agencies in Hanoi are working together to take advantage of their strengths to develop products and attract tourists.

The 2nd Hanoi Autumn Festival with the theme "Hanoi Autumn - Historic Autumn" with many rich and unique cultural and tourism events attracted many people and tourists to visit and experience during the weekend.

In 2022, CNN proposed Hanoi as one of the 12 most ideal destinations in the world in autumn, attracting great attention. In recent years, autumn is also the time when many cultural and tourism events are held in Hanoi, often associated with the anniversary of the Capital Liberation Day (October 10). Typical programs are: Ao Dai Tourism Festival, Tourism Gift Festival, Hanoi Autumn Festival...

This year, the Hanoi Autumn Festival 2024 takes place from September 20 to 22 at the walking street of Hoan Kiem Lake and a number of tourist destinations in the area, continuing to be an opportunity for destinations, craft villages, and tourism companies to promote their strengths to a large number of tourists and people of the capital.

The festival introduces Hanoi's craft villages such as My Duc weaving, Quang Phu Cau incense making... along with many typical culinary dishes such as Uoc Le ham, Vong village green rice, Hang Than green rice cake, Tay Ho lotus tea...

Each craft village has its own impressive beauty and unique characteristics that create the cultural value of Thang Long land. In addition, there are spaces to promote and introduce tourist destinations; promote the flavors of Hanoi; spaces and experiential activities for people and domestic and international tourists.

According to culinary expert Le Thi Thiet (Vietnam Culinary Culture Association), every time Hanoi enters autumn, typical culinary dishes create their own attraction. "There are dishes that are not necessarily only available in autumn but are delicious when eaten in autumn, such as fragrant green rice, blood worms, rice cakes, pho... in the autumn of Hanoi, the aroma and flavor of these dishes seem to become more special and memorable. Many Hanoi dishes have been widely recognized and listed domestically and internationally, so promoting and attracting tourists through culinary channels is a very effective way."

In addition to 17 districts, towns and cities in the capital, the Hanoi Autumn Festival also has the participation and support of 12 provinces and cities nationwide; along with associations, clubs, tourism and travel businesses... On this occasion, many booths bring a space imbued with Hanoi's autumn to inspire visitors, such as enjoying Hanoi tea and coffee, listening to the familiar melodies of the capital's autumn from the sounds of guitars, cajon drums and saxophones.

Visitors can experience taking instant photos when checking in with the “Love Car” or ice cream sticks shaped like unique Hanoi landmarks; or write letters to send wishes and messages of encouragement to disadvantaged children in the highlands and Vietravel and the tourists in the volunteer group will help deliver them to each child.

The exhibition booths were built according to the model of houses in the old quarter, giving the Festival space a "very Hanoian feel".

Vice Chairman of Hanoi Tourism Association Nguyen Tien Dat said that nearly 10 tourism products about Hanoi's autumn have been developed. These are: Tour to experience Hanoi's autumn through 5 senses (tourists walk on the flower road, listen to songs about Hanoi, eat green rice cakes, drink egg coffee, shop for gifts); Hanoi autumn photo tour; Hanoi food tour; Hanoi city tour by elevated urban railway and electric bus; Ao Dai tour (tourists wearing Ao Dai depart from the Old Quarter to Van Phuc silk village for sightseeing and shopping); tour of Ha Thai lacquer craft village (Thuong Tin) - bell hat village (Thanh Oai) - Quang Phu Cau incense village (Ung Hoa); tour of Duong Lam - Mia Pagoda - Son Tay ancient citadel - Khai Nguyen Pagoda; tour to watch the live show "Quintessence of the North"; tour of Duong Lam - Mia Pagoda - Son Tay ancient citadel - Khai Nguyen Pagoda - Thay Pagoda - "Quintessence of the North" show.

Vice President of Hanoi Tourism Association Nguyen Tien Dat said: "To fully experience Hanoi's autumn, tourists need to have time to experience and learn. Therefore, when introducing autumn tourism products, agencies need to have clear suggestions and create tours with reasonable schedules so that tourists can experience it longer."

This year, due to the complicated situation of storms and floods, the second Hanoi Autumn Festival has been adjusted to a smaller scale to ensure safety. The festival will take place on schedule with 150 booths and many spaces to promote Hanoi's culture and tourist destinations.

Although the festival will not have a street art parade like previous years, it will still have many activities promoting culture and tourism. Tourism businesses are also invited to participate in building new tours and introducing unique products to visitors.

Mr. Tran Trung Hieu - Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism, said that the tourism industry has determined to develop autumn tourism to become a brand of Hanoi. This year, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the capital, the Department of Tourism organizes cultural performances and promotions, helping the event become an annual activity of the tourism industry every autumn.
