Traveling at Pha Din peak - visitors are satisfied to explore one of the 'four great passes'

Tourists visit Pha Din Top Eco-tourism Area.

Pha Din Pass is located on the vital National Highway 6 connecting Son La and Dien Bien provinces, in Tuan Giao district (Dien Bien), where there are many tourist attractions, such as Ha Cho cave, Pu Nhung revolutionary base; national archaeological site Tham Khuong cave (Chieng Dong commune)...

Pha Din is known as the most dangerous pass among the "four great mountain passes" of the Northwest region, including: O Quy Ho, Ma Pi Leng, Khau Pha and Pha Din. Pha Din is known by domestic and foreign tourists for its majestic, wild beauty and the danger of the 32km long pass with the highest peak over 1,600m above sea level.

However, in the past, tourists felt regretful when standing on the top of the bare pass, admiring the majestic, vast space with winding roads in the floating clouds below the pass, lacking space for tourists to stop and enjoy.

Until the Pha Din Pass expansion project is completed, Pha Din is changing day by day. Especially for those who love adventure travel, Pha Din Pass has become an unmissable destination in the journey to discover the beauty of the Northwest region.

Since 2016, Pha Din Pass eco-tourism area located on Pha Din Pass has become an ideal stopover for tourists when exploring the beauty of one of the "four great passes", where heaven and earth meet.

Realizing the valuable tourism potential of Pha Din Pass, in 2016, Pha Din Cooperative, Tuan Giao District, Dien Bien Province was established in the spirit of "cooperation for mutual development" of 5 indigenous households.

Members of Pha Din Cooperative have contributed money to rent 50 hectares of land on Pha Din Pass for a period of 50 years to renovate it into Pha Din Pass Tourist Area. After more than a year of dedicated investment, Pha Din Pass Tourist Area has now yielded “sweet fruit” with hundreds of visitors visiting every day.

Pha Din Top Tourist Area – An attractive destination for tourists on Pha Din Pass.

Mr. Dinh Van Tuan - manager of Pha Din Pass Tourist Area, one of five households that called on members to contribute capital to establish a cooperative - shared that it was not difficult to mobilize families to contribute capital to do business together, because everyone saw the potential from the large number of tourists stopping on Pha Din Pass to sightsee every day, but there was no specific resting place.

Therefore, building Pha Din Pass Tourist Area to become a stopover for tourists on the pass known as "the four great peaks" in the Northwest is very suitable.

Mr. Tuan added that the tourist area was formed based on the idea of building a resting and stopping place for tourists to comfortably have fun and sightsee, and also a place for people from Dien Bien and Son La provinces to exchange. In the coming time, the tourist area will be invested in building and expanding more entertainment and relaxation spaces.

From the early days of experimenting with growing buckwheat flowers, making windmill hills... through many experiments, with failures and successes, Pha Din Pass has now become an ideal place for tourists to enjoy the colorful flower valley, a space to rest, play, take photos, eat, camp... on hills with landscapes that are in harmony with nature and rich in cultural colors.

Pha Din Pass Eco-tourism Area currently welcomes 150 - 200 visitors/day, and 500 - 700 visitors on Saturdays and Sundays.

Pha Din Pass Ecotourism Area is not only a satisfying stop for tourists but also creates jobs for local people. Currently, the cooperative attracts about 50 regular workers, with an average income of about 5 - 7 million VND/person/month.

If we consider the income level of local workers in the two communes of Phong Lai and Muong E (Thuan Chau district, Son La province), this is a pretty good salary.

Besides tourism activities, Pha Din Tourism Cooperative also has booths to introduce and sell local agricultural specialties with many typical fruits of the Northwest mountainous region such as: persimmon, grapefruit, plum, peach, guava...

This is an important premise for the cooperative to develop tourism associated with agriculture, attracting tourists to visit and experience activities related to agriculture and farm work, helping tourists to entertain, exercise, and get close to nature.
