The Turkish Transport Ministry said the engine of a Russian passenger plane caught fire after landing at Antalya airport in southern Türkiye on November 24.
The Turkish Transport Ministry announced that the incident involved a Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SU95) aircraft operated by Russia's Azimuth Airlines, according to AFP.
In a statement, the Turkish Transport Ministry added that the plane had just landed at Antalya airport on Türkiye's Mediterranean coast when a fire broke out in one of the plane's engines.
This photo taken by the Turkish news agency DHA on November 24 shows the Sukhoi Superjet 100-95RL passenger plane belonging to Azimut Airlines of Russia after one of its engines caught fire and passengers were urgently evacuated from the plane on the runway of Antalya airport in Türkiye.
"The engine of an SU95 aircraft... belonging to Azimuth Airlines flying from Sochi airport in Russia to Antalya airport caught fire while landing. The 89 passengers and 6 crew members on board were safely evacuated at 9:43 p.m. (local time) and there were no injuries," the Turkish Transport Ministry announced.
A video shared on social media by the Airport Haber news site shows emergency services responding to the scene of the fire, with flames and smoke billowing from the plane's engine.
All further scheduled landings at Antalya airport will be canceled until 3 a.m. local time on November 25, the Turkish Transport Ministry said in a statement. Other planes waiting to depart will use the airport's military runway for takeoff, the ministry added.
An airport official told Türkiye's Anadolou news agency that the fire affected the plane's left engine but was quickly extinguished.
Azimuth Airlines said the plane made a bad landing due to wind shear (a difference in wind speed and direction over a relatively short distance in the Earth's atmosphere). Russia's Federal Aviation Administration Rosaviatsiya said it was investigating the incident.
