Coach Kim Sang-sik marked his first time participating in the AFF Cup by facing the Laos team on the opening day. The Korean coach affirmed more than once that he understood the importance of winning even though the opponent was not a strong team.
In his first time participating in the AFF Cup, goalkeeper Nguyen Dinh Trieu can be trusted to start. He is not better than his teammate Nguyen Filip, but his footwork is good and he can communicate continuously with the 3 central defenders above. Although the Lao team's attack only has Bounphachan Bounkong as the most notable name, coach Kim Sang-sik will still be careful and choose the best defenders.
Nguyen Filip may be on the bench on the opening day of the AFF Cup 2024.
Bui Tien Dung will play as a left-sided center-back, Do Duy Manh will play in the center of defense, and Bui Hoang Viet Anh will play as a right-sided defender in a 3-4-3 formation. Meanwhile, to increase the attack, Vu Van Thanh will play as a left-sided defender - a position that is not his forte but that he has played in many times. On the opposite wing, Ho Tan Tai is trusted.
Against a physically weak Laos opponent, Le Pham Thanh Long and Nguyen Hoang Duc are capable of controlling the midfield and focusing on the attack. The forward line will be led by Nguyen Tien Linh. The player born in 1997 is the main striker and is expected to score an early goal. Supporting him can be left forward Tuan Hai and right forward Van Toan.
Before the match, coach Kim Sang-sik said: " Tomorrow's match is not just a normal football match, it has a bigger meaning, about national spirit and national colors. We will fight for that. I know the Vietnamese community in Laos is very large, and they will be at the stadium tomorrow to cheer for the team.
This brings great encouragement, motivating us to be determined to win to bring joy to domestic fans as well as compatriots living and working in Laos ."
The match between Vietnam and Laos will take place at Laos National Stadium at 8:00 p.m. on December 9.
