One day in mid-March, the reporter visited the ancient Tan An communal house (locals call it Ben The communal house) located on a low hill in Quarter 1, Tan An Ward, Thu Dau Mot City, Binh Duong Province.

In a quiet space, Tan An communal house creates an attraction with two front and back gates surrounded by banyan trees. Inside the campus there are dozens of rare ancient trees, creating an indescribable mystery.

Those who have been to Tan An will surely be forever captivated by the image of the ancient communal house gate with a hundred-year-old banyan tree, with its tangled roots wrapped around the two mossy, old gates.

According to records, Tan An communal house was built in 1820 to worship Tien Quan Co Nguyen Van Thanh - one of the founding fathers of the Nguyen Dynasty.

In 2014, Tan An communal house was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a National Architectural and Artistic Relic.

This unique communal house gate was once chosen by Vietnamese filmmakers as the main setting for scenes of ancient Southern villages.

According to a 79-year-old man living near Tan An communal house, he did not know when the banyan tree started embracing the communal house gate, but he only knew that he had seen it when he was a child. At that time, children in the area often came to the communal house gate to climb and play.

Currently, Tan An communal house still preserves the royal decree granted by King Tu Duc in 1853. In addition to preserving historical and cultural values, Tan An communal house is also a place for spiritual and cultural activities of local people and people in the region.

The ancestors of the Nguyen family (who held the position of Ban Bien) took charge of rebuilding the communal house on a large scale, with the shape it has now. On the other hand, the Nguyen family was one of the first generations of residents to come to Tan An to reclaim land and make a living and had the merit of restoring the communal house, so they were honored by the villagers as "Predecessors - Postdecessors" and were worshiped in the main hall to show their respect.

On November 19, the 21st year of Tu Duc (1869), King Tu Duc issued a decree to Tan An communal house to recognize the communal house and confer the title of Thanh Hoang god so that people would know and worship him. The decree has always been kept at the Nguyen family temple (currently the house of Mr. Nguyen Tri Quan). According to the decree issued by King Tu Duc, the main god worshiped in the communal house is Thanh Hoang Bon Canh.

According to documents of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Binh Duong province, Tan An communal house was originally just a few simple thatched houses, so it was named "Tuong An temple", built by the people of 4 communes: Tuong Binh (now Tuong Binh Hiep), Tuong An (now Tan An), Tuong Hoa (now Dinh Hoa) and Cau Dinh (now Tan Dinh) to worship the Thanh Hoang Bon Canh god, the communal house was located in Tuong An village.

From the gate, one enters a year-round green forest with many precious woods such as: ironwood, acacia, rosewood, and oil. Past the forest is the three-door gate leading to the inside of the communal house. On the pillars and in front of the altars, there are horizontal lacquered boards and parallel sentences written in Chinese characters that are very valuable for studying and researching culture.
