On the morning of December 1, the Forum "ESG - Opportunities and challenges for employment for people with disabilities" was held in Ho Chi Minh City by the Vietnam Business Network for Women's Empowerment (VBCWE) on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3).
This is the first time a forum addressing employment opportunities for people with disabilities in the context and trends of ESG sustainable development has been held in Vietnam with the aim of finding and connecting new employment opportunities, building an ecosystem for skills training and vocational training for people with disabilities, and connecting with businesses that have the need and ability to employ workers with disabilities.
Speakers at the Forum "ESG - Opportunities and challenges in employment for people with disabilities" shared meaningful and inspiring information.
Attending the forum as a speaker, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Hai - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alphanam Group, also a representative of Sao Do Entrepreneurs, a pioneer in implementing ESG in enterprises and especially the initiative of connecting and creating jobs for employees, shared his views from the perspective of a representative of a Vietnamese enterprise.
Responding to questions about businesses' awareness of creating conditions and opportunities for people with disabilities to access and advance in their jobs, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Hai said that this is a process of change from awareness leading to changes in working methods and implementation.
“ Alphanam has been established and developed for nearly 30 years. In the past, there were disabled people working in the operations of Alphanam’s factories, but our awareness at that time was very simple, just the feeling of needing to do good work, but it had not yet become a consciousness.
When we worked with some foreign partners and saw that they had incentives for employing disabled workers, that was the turning point that changed my and Alphanam's awareness and actions ," Mr. Hai shared.
Announcing the commitment of businesses and business associations to creating an ecosystem of jobs and vocational training for people with disabilities.
Regarding specific actions, Mr. Hai said that Alphanam has changed the office design to be ready to accommodate people with disabilities. Then, the action was taken a step further after discussing with entrepreneurs in the Red Star Entrepreneurs Club and finding sympathy, thoughts, and concerns.
Sao Do businessmen such as Mr. Nguyen Canh Hong - Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Eurowindow Holding Joint Stock Company, Mr. Dang Hong Anh - Vice Chairman of TTC Group, Ms. Luu Thi Thanh Mau - General Director of Phuc Khang Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phuong - Chairman of Kangaroo Group or Ms. Cao Thi Ngoc Dung - Chairman of Phu Nhuan Jewelry Joint Stock Company (PNJ), Mr. Pham Dinh Doan - Chairman of Phu Thai Group, Mr. Nguyen Duc Thach Diem - General Director of Sacombank... have shared the determination to establish Nghi Luc Song Company - a social enterprise with the philosophy of bringing to the disabled "a fishing rod, not a fish".
Will to Live Company was started from the foundation of Red Star Entrepreneurs, a rare company that gathers many people with heart, intelligence and financial capacity to participate.
Alphanam Chairman also said that the desire of Sao Do Entrepreneurs started from the thought "this is something that must be done" and was raised to "this is something that should be done". Currently, they feel "this is something that they can enjoy and do" when they see that the work is useful and meaningful to society.
In particular, Mr. Hai and the Red Star Entrepreneurs hope to spread this to successful entrepreneurs and businesses, who will also feel that this is something they can do to contribute to society. As for people with disabilities, they will change from being self-conscious to being confident and proud of themselves.
Accordingly, Will to Live, formerly known as Will to Live Center, was founded in 2008 by IT Knight Nguyen Cong Hung (1982 - 2012).
