With a population of about 350 million people, Southwest China is a large market with diverse import demand for agricultural products.

Participating in the China-South Asia Fair in Kunming City, Yunnan Province is a good opportunity for Vietnamese businesses to find partners and promote the export of strong products to this potential market.

At the 8th China-South Asia Expo and the 28th Kunming China Import and Export Fair (taking place from July 23-28), Vietnam participated with 124 booths of 61 enterprises and 3 provincial focal units, including units participating in the fair for the first time.

Ms. Pham Thi Thu Hien, Executive Director of Quang Ninh Seafood Production and Trading Company Limited, said that this is the first time Quang Ninh province has organized a delegation to participate in the fair in Kunming, China.

After surveying and knowing that the Yunnan market is also very interested in seafood products, the company decided to participate in the trade promotion program of Quang Ninh province, coming to this fair with the hope of finding many partners, at the same time surveying the needs of the Yunnan market, China, in order to make improvements more suitable to the market needs, expanding the opportunity to bring Vietnamese seafood products to this potential market.

If in the past, Vietnam's export products to Yunnan were mainly wooden furniture and handicrafts, since the Covid-19 pandemic, the import demand of the Southwest Chinese market for agricultural products and processed foods has been much larger and expanded to other products such as seafood, coffee, cashew nuts, footwear, etc. These are all products with Vietnam's export strengths to the Yunnan market as well as the Southwest provinces of China.

In the context of changing market demand in Southwest China, many Vietnamese enterprises have begun to pay attention to this potential market.

Mr. Ha Duc Binh, Director of the Center for Industrial Promotion and Trade Promotion, Lao Cai Department of Industry and Trade, said that implementing the cooperation program between the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the government of Yunnan province (China), every year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade assigns the Trade Promotion Department to coordinate with the Department of Industry and Trade of Lao Cai province to participate and provide maximum support for Vietnamese enterprises to participate in the China - South Asia Expo and the Kunming Import and Export Fair of China. This is a great opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises to bring their products, especially fruits, vegetables, and special agricultural products, to the market and bring Vietnamese agricultural products to the Chinese people.

According to Mr. Ha Duc Binh, currently, the connection between Vietnam's border localities with China is increasingly smooth, creating extremely favorable conditions for Vietnam's export products to reach the Southwest China market. Vietnam's export turnover to China in recent years has always been higher year after year and is expected to increase by no less than 15% in 2024.
