Study pressure causes children to have psychological disorders
Recently, doctors at the Department of Adolescent Health, National Children's Hospital, received and treated a number of students who were hospitalized in a state of fatigue, stress and constant panic.
Study pressure makes these children feel tired, stressed, sleepless, and afraid of studying. Some children are often restless, cry... when facing important exams.
Dr. Ngo Anh Vinh - Deputy Head of the Department of Adolescent Health, National Children's Hospital, said that both children were determined by doctors to have psychological disorders related to stressful study pressure.
According to Dr. Vinh, in 2022, the Department of Adolescent Health, National Children's Hospital, conducted a study on psychological disorders in students at a number of secondary schools in Hanoi (from grades 6 to 9). The results showed that anxiety symptoms in children accounted for 38%, followed by stress at 33% and depression at 26.1%.
At the National Children's Hospital, among the children who come for examination and treatment for symptoms of anxiety, depression and stress, many are considered well-behaved and have good academic performance.
These children often put pressure on themselves to maintain their image with friends, family, and teachers, causing them to constantly strive. This makes them susceptible to stress, anxiety, fatigue, and even depression, especially when they do not meet their expectations.
The causes of the above disorders are often: Too much knowledge, children not preparing well for exams, unstable psychology and pressure from school, parents...

Signs of depression, anxiety and stress in students
Dr. Ngo Anh Vinh said that pressure from studying and taking exams is one of the main reasons why children easily fall into a state of anxiety, stress and depression. Stress, anxiety and depression often develop silently, as a result of the whole process of children having to endure pressure from studying and taking exams.
Parents should pay attention to their children when they have the following behaviors:
* Children have unusual behaviors and emotions: Often irritable or crying for no reason, tired, bored, not communicating with people...
* Children show signs of insomnia or sleeping too much, loss of appetite, and refusal to eat.
* In addition, children often have physical symptoms such as stomachache, headache, chest pain, rapid heartbeat...
* Excessive anxiety, always in a state of tension and nervousness.
Accompanying to help children relieve exam pressure
According to Dr. Ngo Anh Vinh, senior students, especially high school students, often face a lot of pressure from studying and taking exams from themselves, friends, teachers and even parents. Every parent wants the best for their children, but some parents are impatient when their children's scores are not high, worry when their children are not in the top students in the class, putting pressure on their children.
Dr. Vinh believes that parents should not expect too much from their children because this unintentionally puts a lot of pressure on them. Parents should clearly understand their children's abilities and strengths in order to set goals and choose the right school and class.
In addition, parents need to listen to their children's thoughts and wishes to give them the right advice and direction, helping them relieve the pressure of studying and taking exams. In addition, parents also need to ensure their children have adequate nutrition, sleep, and regular exercise to help their children have good mental health to confidently pass exams in the best way.
