Analyzing the 2018 General Education Program, Dr. Khuyen said that students have the advantage of being differentiated early and choosing their own study groups according to their abilities, including new subjects such as: Technology, Economic and Legal Education...

However, these are not the familiar basics for career guidance for students. Students are forced to choose a subject combination from the beginning of high school while they have not been oriented or have a certain awareness of their career, which also puts them at risk of making the wrong choice and when they want to change their combination, they encounter many difficulties and problems.

With only one semester left, this year's 12th graders will take the 2025 high school graduation exam.

With the trend of university admissions from 2025, a series of universities may continue to organize their own entrance exams called "ability assessment" and "thinking assessment".

Many lower-ranking schools also offer a variety of "strange" and non-traditional admission methods with the aim of attracting candidates to meet training quotas, causing difficulties and costs for candidates and parents due to having to take multiple exams, having to accept enrollment in many "training centers", taking extra classes at school, taking exam preparation classes, taking competency assessment training classes, taking IELTS training classes, etc.

Supporting the plan to tighten the early admission rate, Dr. Khuyen also said that the Ministry of Education and Training also needs to unify regulations on choosing high school graduation exam results as the main criteria for admission to university and vocational education as directed in Resolution 29: "Innovating the examination method and recognizing high school graduation in the direction of reducing pressure and costs for society while still ensuring reliability, honesty, and correct assessment of students' abilities, as a basis for admission to vocational education and university education".

The Ministry also needs to regulate a reasonable combination of admissions, and resolutely eliminate “strange” combinations. At that time, universities should only set secondary criteria for gifted and hot majors. “By doing so, it will reduce unnecessary pressure on students to study and practice for exams,” Dr. Khuyen said.

“University and college admissions are increasingly chaotic and ineffective, creating inequality in access to university education for disadvantaged groups in society,” Dr. Le Viet Khuyen

Dr. Vo The Quan, Chairman of the Board of Dong Do High School (Hanoi) said that it is necessary to create a synchronous mechanism connecting high school with university in a scientific, flexible, appropriate and effective way. Universities should not offer many admission methods but should choose a wide range of traditional admission subject combinations to meet the training needs of the fields of Natural Sciences, Engineering, Technology, Economics, Health Sciences, Social Sciences, etc.

In each specialized field, higher requirements may be placed on a certain subject. For example, if applying for Mathematics Education/Bachelor of Mathematics, Mathematics may have a coefficient of 2.

High schools have the conditions to organize focused learning and career guidance for students, ensuring the quality of graduation exams and universities that use graduation exam results for admission have a richer source of students, the admission work is also more streamlined, of better quality and efficiency.
