From 2021 to present, the Foreign Language and Social Sciences and Humanities specialized schools have tended to decrease their admission scores, while the remaining two schools have remained quite stable.
In addition to the two specialized high schools Nguyen Hue and Hanoi - Amsterdam under the Department of Education and Training, Hanoi has four specialized high schools affiliated with universities. The 10th grade entrance exams to these schools are held independently, recruiting students nationwide.
The admission scores of the specialized high schools of the University of Education are relatively stable. In three years, the admission scores of the specialized Math and English classes have changed the most. The admission scores of the specialized Math class increased from 21.75 to 26.5/40, and the admission scores of the specialized English class decreased from 27 to 24.4.
Other specialized classes usually have a standard score of 23-25, increasing or decreasing by about 0.5-2 points.

This year's entrance exam for the 10th grade of the Pedagogy School took place on June 5. In addition to the seven specialized classes already available, the school will enroll a specialized Geography class for the first time, with a total enrollment target of 420. The admission score is the sum of the scores of the two Math and Literature exams plus the specialized subject score multiplied by a coefficient of 2.
This is also the specialized school with the largest number of candidates, with 5,000-6,000 candidates, due to the many specialized subjects. The competition ratio of the classes is usually from 1/10 or more, especially for Literature and English, it is nearly 1/30.

Foreign Language Specialized High School is the only school that has two standard scores for each specialized class (except English and Russian). The reason is that candidates can take the entrance exam in English or another foreign language.
The benchmark score for exam block D1 is for the combination of English and two compulsory exams: Math and Natural Science, Literature and Social Science. Exam blocks D3, D4, D5, D6 and D7 apply to the combination of foreign languages as one of the following subjects: French, Chinese, German, Japanese, Korean.
Admission score is the total score of three exams, in which Foreign Language is multiplied by two, maximum 40.
Field of study | Exam block | 2021 | 2022 | 2023 |
English | D1 | 28 | 26.6 | 25.42 |

Over the past three years, the benchmark scores of the Foreign Language School have tended to decrease.
In 2021, the highest benchmark score was 28 points for the English major class, while most of the rest were above 26. By 2022, no specialized class had a score above 27 points, the lowest was 24 points. The benchmark score continued to decrease last year, when the English major class was still leading but less than 26 points, and the Korean class had the lowest score of 22.34 points.
This year, the Foreign Language High School recruited 525 students, an increase of 120 compared to before. The exam took place on the morning of June 1.
Every year, the total number of applications to the school is about 3,500-4,000.
High School for the Gifted in Social Sciences and Humanities is the youngest specialized school in Hanoi, enrolling for the first time in 2020, with a competition ratio of about 1/8-1/10.
In previous years, the school considered the total score of the three exams in Math, Literature and English, plus the specialized subject score (multiplied by a factor of two), up to a maximum of 50. The specialized Literature class always had the highest standard score, at 33-36 points. The other two classes were about 4-6 points lower.

Literature | 36 | 33.5 | 34.6 |
History | 30 | 28.5 | 30 |
Geography | 31 | 28 | 30.1 |
This year, the School of Social Sciences and Humanities will recruit 140 students and hold the exam on the morning of June 2. The new point is that candidates will only take the exam in one specialized subject for 150 minutes.
High School for Natural Sciences considers Literature a conditional subject and is not used to calculate admission scores. Candidates only need to achieve 4 points or higher.
Admission score is the sum of Math score (round 1) and specialized subject score multiplied by coefficient 2, maximum 30.
Specialized class | 2021 | 2022 | 2023 |
Maths | 17.5 | 20 | 19.5 |

The competition rate to get into the school is about 1/4-1/10 every year, with Math and IT classes being the highest.
