Local people do not understand why these banana dishes appeared and the media also had to "investigate".
On the corner of Abbey and Wensor Streets in Beeston, a small town about three miles southwest of Nottingham, England, once a month on the night of the first and the morning of the second, a plate of peeled bananas mysteriously appears. The number of bananas usually ranges from 15 to 20, placed directly opposite a church. This has been going on for over a year, leaving locals both curious and bewildered.

Peeled bananas on a plate causing a stir
Some residents said they had completely ignored the bananas, despite having passed the area many times. “What bananas?” one woman asked, peering out of her window. Others said they had always noticed the bananas and were curious to know the story behind them.
James Oviedo, from Beeston, said he walks past the corner with his dog almost every day and thought the bananas had been there for two years. Mr Oviedo said: "It's quite strange. There's always a big bunch of peeled bananas on a plate and they seem to be drizzled with what looks like honey. At first I thought it was probably a religious ritual [...] or maybe someone just likes feeding insects or something."
Claire Fenwick, a nearby resident, said: "I think this has been going on for at least a year. I see them all the time, it's hard to remember exactly when. I've never seen anyone leave them there. They could be animal food, but I've never seen a bite of them. My friends will text me saying, 'Oh, there's another banana today.' But we don't know where they come from or who's doing it."
One of the most popular theories is that the bananas were placed there as a religious offering. In Hinduism, offering bananas to the gods is a common ritual, symbolizing abundance, fertility, and good fortune. Honey also has symbolic significance in Hinduism, being considered to add natural sweetness and nutrition to offerings. Others have suggested that perhaps someone was trying to feed wild animals, although the bananas do not appear to have been eaten.
These banana plates have attracted public curiosity because for many years no one has been able to "decode" them.
Lauren, who lives just around the corner from where the bananas were left, said: "We'd love to know why they were there. We've all been discussing it in our WhatsApp group, we're completely baffled." She believes they've been there since she moved in around a year ago and thinks they were placed at night or early in the morning. "I've walked past in the evening and there was nothing there, then [the plate] appeared the next morning. I hope it's not something nasty like someone trying to poison animals."
A sign recently appeared on a street corner with the message: "Please, no more bananas! The plates are not cleared and the bananas are rotting, leaving a mess. Happy New Year to all!" Clare Short, a local litter-picking volunteer who placed the sign, said she took it down because she "didn't want it to look like an argument, I didn't want it to become a big deal."
Someone put up a sign asking people to stop placing bananas and then moved away.
Ms Short told the BBC that the bananas appeared on the second of every month and that it was a "special treat" for whoever left them there and she "wished them well." She added: "But if they could come back and clean up the mess a few days later that would be fantastic. I'll keep an eye on it and keep cleaning up the mess."
The bizarre story of the mysterious banana dish has attracted the attention of the British online community, and the media has also wanted to "investigate". However, when The Guardian reporter visited the site, the only evidence remaining of the most recent offering was a pile of about 15 bananas discarded in the fence; the dish had been removed.
