Accordingly, from August 1, Hai Van Quan relic will begin welcoming visitors and will temporarily be free for locals and tourists until a suitable ticket price list is agreed upon.

Hai Van Quan relic is located on the top of Hai Van pass, between Lang Co town (Phu Loc district, Thua Thien - Hue province) and Hoa Hiep Bac ward (Lien Chieu district, Da Nang city) with an area of about 6,500m2.

On December 19, 2021, the project to preserve, restore and promote the value of Hai Van Quan relic was held by the Hue Monuments Conservation Center in coordination with the Department of Culture and Sports of Da Nang City.

The project has a total investment of more than 42 billion VND from 50% of Thua Thien Hue province's budget and 50% of Da Nang city's budget.

According to Mr. Hoang Viet Trung, Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, Hai Van Quan relic was built in 1826, a military fortification guarding the top of Hai Van pass right on the border between Thua Thien Hue province and Da Nang city today (formerly the border between Thua Thien and Quang Nam prefectures).

Hai Van Quan was built in a very favorable location, both dangerous and steep, the most important place known as the "throat" of Hue Capital.

This citadel is located on the only road from Hue capital to Quang Nam province and vice versa.

Here, the Nguyen Dynasty relied on the natural terrain to build a unique citadel, maximizing its military capabilities, which is the majestic Hai Van Quan.

The project consists of main architectural elements: a wall about 130m long surrounding the only highway, along with solid walls blocking the cliffs; the main gate to the South has the three words "Hai Van Quan"; the main gate to the North has the words "Thien Ha De Nhat Hung Quan"; a side gate for soldiers to enter and exit, along with the Tru So house as a residence and Vo Kho as a warehouse.

In particular, all are located on the highest peak of the North-South highway.

During the period 1945 - 1975, many additional military structures were built here such as some watchtowers and bunkers to guard this vital road...

In particular, on top of the two gates Hai Van Quan and Thien Ha De Nhat Hung Quan, there were also built systems of fortifications to observe and place guns.

Hai Van Quan relic was ranked as a National Monument by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2017.
