Located 15 km from the center of Tan Lac district, Da Trang pass on National Highway 6, in Tam hamlet, Phu Cuong commune, is the gateway connecting Mai Chau district and Tan Lac district (Hoa Binh province).
Hidden magically in the mist, with a beautiful appearance like a white silk strip across the mountain, Da Trang Pass is becoming one of the must-see destinations for tourists when visiting Hoa Binh province.
Stopping on Da Trang Pass, I clearly felt the cold air in the early morning mist of winter.
The gentle morning sunlight appears and disappears in the thin, cold mist that gently surrounds the mountain, creating a scene like in a fairyland.
A blanket of white covered everything, the scenery hidden in the fog resembled the snowy mountains of Northern Europe.
The name of the White Stone Pass was created by chance. When the mountain was broken and Highway 6 was widened, limestone slabs slid down from the mountain top to the valley, creating a masterpiece, white like a snowy mountain.
With the cold air typical of the Northwest mountainous region, the clouds appearing and disappearing, the majestic scenery of the Northwest mountains and forests, visitors passing through here are stunned, feeling like they are lost in a fairyland.
Although not as majestic and dangerous as Ma Pi Leng Pass (Ha Giang), O Quy Ho (Lao Cai)... the winding, curving roads, along with the majestic and beautiful mountain scenery of the pass are still the inspiration for many "backpackers" who want to visit once to check-in and "live virtual".
Visitors can go up to Da Trang Pass by car or motorbike, however, to experience the winding roads, the "sleeve" bends, enjoy the cold air as well as the majestic mountain scenery, traveling by motorbike will bring that completely.
Da Trang Pass in Tam hamlet, Phu Cuong commune (Tan Lac district, Hoa Binh province) is an ideal destination for many tourists from inside and outside the province.
Not too prominent on the tourist map, but if anyone has ever been to Da Trang Pass, they will definitely have unforgettable emotions.
Coming to Da Trang Pass, in addition to the majestic scenery and cool, fresh air, you can also enjoy mountain and forest products right at the small market on the pass.
Small stalls sell boiled corn, bamboo rice, chicken eggs, grilled meat, wild vegetables, orchids, honey... even wild birds or a few small squirrels. Sitting and sipping hot tea with boiled corn, fragrant grilled meat skewers by the red fire in the cold air is also an interesting experience for tourists from near and far.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thien, a tourist from the faraway city of Da Nang, who set foot on the poetic Da Trang Pass for the first time, also had unforgettable feelings: "Not to mention Da Trang Pass, the winding roads, impressive curves filled with fog, one side is a mountain, the other side is a cliff, giving a very adventurous feeling. When I reached the pass, I was truly overwhelmed by the beautiful and majestic natural scenery. The local dishes are simple but very delicious."
As for the indigenous people, perhaps their lives have long been associated with the place covered in mist all year round.
Mrs. Bui Thi Ut (Tam hamlet, Phu Cuong commune, Tan Lac district, Hoa Binh province) has been boiling corn and grilling meat on the top of the pass for more than 20 years and confided: "It's often foggy up here, and rainy days are freezing cold, but I'm used to living up here.
When the children come to visit, they always come to visit grandma instead of going to her house because they always stay here. Business here is also good, on average we receive a few dozen guests a day, including many foreign tourists."
In the middle of the pass, there is a high rocky outcrop with the national flag on top, which is a favorite "check-in" spot for backpackers. From the precarious rocky outcrop, you can capture the majestic space of the pass in your sight, demonstrating the courage of people to explore and conquer nature, and take beautiful photos to show off on Facebook with friends.
Four seasons in one day is another rare miracle that visitors can experience on Da Trang Pass if they have the opportunity to enjoy it from early morning until sunset.
As noon approached, the bright sunlight cleared away the clouds, revealing the landscape. The sky was blue, the sleeping flowers seemed to suddenly wake up and put on a colorful coat, the landscape was filled with vitality.
From the top of the pass, as far as the eye can see, the immense green of the mountains and forests, the bright yellow sunlight spreading across the winding roads, and the blue smoke rising from the roofs of stilt houses, adding to the beautiful picture.
Dusk falls, the warm rays of sunlight gradually close behind the mountains, flocks of birds fly back to their nests, clouds cover the path, making the mountain and forest scene sink into silence.
Leaving the birdsong and the misty mountains, the tourists got back on the bus, one after another, returning to the lights of the city, but their hearts were still filled with excitement.
Like a lover in a white dress, the pass is still there waiting, longing for wandering footsteps from near and far to visit, to enjoy the birdsong, the colors of flowers and leaves, and the breath of the Northwest sky.
