This afternoon (March 30), the Ministry of National Defense held a conference to assign tasks to the Vietnam People's Army (VPA) to participate in overcoming the consequences of the earthquake in Myanmar.

Attending the conference were comrades: General Nguyen Tan Cuong, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, Deputy Minister of National Defense; Senior Lieutenant General Huynh Chien Thang, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army; Senior Lieutenant General Le Quang Minh, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army and leaders of agencies and units.
Speaking at the conference, General Nguyen Tan Cuong stated that, implementing the foreign policy motto of our Party, Vietnam is ready to be a friend and reliable partner of countries in the international community; from the tradition of humanitarian ethics, mutual love and mutual assistance of the Vietnamese people; implementing the direction of the Central Party Secretariat, the Government; the Standing Committee of the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense decided to send the Vietnam People's Army to participate in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in Myanmar.
Major General Pham Van Ty said that, drawing on experience from the search, rescue and relief mission after the earthquake disaster in Türkiye in February 2023, the force deployed this time has more experience in organizing, commanding and operating relief activities. At the same time, it is coordinating with international relief forces, as well as handling emergency situations and arising situations.
On March 29, the Ministry of National Defense directed the Department of Search and Rescue (General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army) to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Foreign Affairs, the General Department of Logistics and Technology, the Engineering Corps, the Border Guard Command and functional units to develop a plan and organize the establishment of a force of 80 soldiers to participate in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief of the Vietnam People's Army in Myanmar.
Of which, the Medical Team under the General Department of Logistics and Engineering has 30 people; the Collapse Rescue Engineering Team under the Engineering Corps has 30 people; the Search and Rescue Dog Team under the Border Guard Command has 9 people and 6 service dogs; the Command and Agency Department has 11 people. The Commander-in-Chief of the force is Major General Pham Van Ty, Deputy Chief of the Standing Office of the National Committee for Incident Response, Natural Disasters and Search and Rescue, Deputy Director of the Department of Search and Rescue.
General Nguyen Tan Cuong, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, Deputy Minister of National Defense, encouraged forces to prepare to leave for the earthquake relief mission in Myanmar.

General Nguyen Tan Cuong requested that during the mission in Myanmar, as representatives of the country and the Vietnam People's Army, the members of the delegation need to uphold the spirit of self-awareness, sense of organization, discipline, solidarity, proactively overcome difficulties, and excellently complete the tasks entrusted to them by the Party, State, and Army.
In particular, the task force focuses on resolving relationships and coordinating with international forces, authorities and local people; promoting the good qualities of the Vietnam People's Army, leaving a good impression in the hearts of international friends and the people of Myanmar.
The General Department of Logistics and Engineering was assigned to prepare 40 tons of dry food and 30 tons of other goods to help the people of Myanmar; to preside over and coordinate with agencies and units to do a good job of ensuring logistics and technology for the forces performing tasks in Myanmar. The Department of Foreign Affairs coordinated with the Air Defense - Air Force and civil airlines to prepare means of transporting goods and equipment to Noi Bai International Airport and coordinate with the functional forces of the neighboring country to deploy a plan to transport goods and mobilize forces to the epicenter of the earthquake.
For the soldiers participating in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in Myanmar, this is an honor to carry out a noble international mission; vividly demonstrating the foreign policy motto and viewpoint of the Party and State; demonstrating the fine tradition and morality of “loving others as you love yourself” of the Vietnamese people.
