Denza N7 electric car fast charging two ports at the same time

BYD's premium electric car has something that none of its competitors have: the ability to use two fast charging ports at the same time.

The Denza brand is a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes, with the Chinese automaker holding a 90% stake and the German automaker holding the remaining 10%. The N7 is positioned in the premium electric crossover segment, with competitors such as the Nio ES6 and Li L7.

Normally, manufacturers emphasize charging time and charging level, but Denza impresses and even argues about its unique charging style when the N7 has two charging ports - a feature that no other electric car in the world currently possesses.

Equipped with two DC fast charging ports, the N7 can be charged with two chargers at the same time. If one port is selected, the maximum charging capacity is 150 kW, and with the second charger plugged in, the capacity is 230 kW. And when using both chargers at the same time, the Denza N7 can run an additional 350 km with just 15 minutes of charging, or 100 km with just 4 minutes of charging.

But because it can use two charging heads at once, the N7 could cause discontent and even conflict at crowded charging stations.

The Denza N7 is based on a modified BYD e-Platform 3.0 platform, with a 91.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. The rear-wheel drive version has a range of 702 km per charge, while the four-wheel drive version has a range of 630 km.

The exterior design of the N7 also attracted attention with mixed opinions. The overall look is sporty, but some details confuse many people. The daytime running lights are L-shaped letters arranged in a long boomerang-shaped strip from the bumper up to the headlight cluster. The rear window is swept back in a fastback style, and the door handles are retractable.

The N7’s luggage space is 480 litres with the rear seats in use, increasing to 1,200 litres with the rear seats folded flat. This isn’t class-leading, but the more compact luggage space means more comfort for passengers. However, the N7 also has a 73-litre front boot.

The interior features birch wood trim, some metal details, and silver plastic surfaces. The central screen is 17.3 inches and the digital clock is 10.21 inches, while the entertainment screen on the passenger side is 10.25 inches. The car is equipped with high technology with 5G connection, wireless charging, head-up display (HUD), fragrance system, and 16-speaker Devialet sound system - a French audio brand.

The high-end Denza N7 is equipped with 33 sensors around the car, including lidar sensors, millimeter-wave radar, and an Nvidia Orin chip, along with two 8 MP cameras.

In the Chinese market, the Denza N7 rear-wheel drive version costs 42,000-44,500 USD, while the 4-wheel drive version is 45,000-53,000 USD.
