The Cua Lo waterway project, an important spearhead in Quang Nam's development planning, is being urgently implemented to welcome giant ships with a capacity of 50,000 tons, opening a new chapter of great promise for logistics activities and attracting investment in the key economic zone of Chu Lai.

With a total estimated investment of up to VND7,200 billion (about USD280 million) under the form of a build-transfer (BT) contract, the Cua Lo waterway project is not simply a dredging project. This is a strategic "push", an important piece in the overall picture of synchronous logistics infrastructure development, linked to the 797-hectare Tam Hoa Free Trade Zone and the system of seaports and industrial parks in the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone, Nui Thanh district.
"Sea runway" for the desire to reach far
The core objective of the project is to dredge and build the Cua Lo waterway, creating conditions for 50,000-ton ships to easily access Tam Hiep port and Tam Hoa port. This not only solves the problem of the current capacity to receive large ships, but also opens up opportunities to significantly improve Quang Nam's maritime transport capacity. Logistics costs, one of the "bottlenecks" for business development, will be significantly reduced, creating a superior competitive advantage for Quang Nam's export goods in particular and the Central Highlands region in general.

The project includes key components designed to form an efficient and integrated maritime transport system.
First and foremost is the dredging of Cua Lo channel, with an expected length of 6km and width of 140m, ensuring the necessary depth for large tonnage ships to enter and exit safely.
Next is the construction of a bridge connecting Tam Hiep and Tam Hoa port areas, strengthening internal traffic connections, creating favorable conditions for the movement of goods between port areas.
Finally, the route connecting the Vietnam - Korea Industrial Park with Vo Chi Cong Street will complete the traffic network connecting the production area with the "gateway" to the sea, optimizing the transportation process.
Tam Hoa "Meeting Point" and the power of resonance
The attractiveness of the Cua Lo waterway project lies not only in the project itself, but also in its close connection with the Tam Hoa Free Trade Zone. With a scale of nearly 800 hectares, Tam Hoa is planned to become a modern logistics and seaport service center, not only serving the needs of Quang Nam but also being an important "bridge" with Southern Laos, Northern Cambodia and the Central Highlands through the East-West economic corridor.
The Tam Hoa Free Trade Zone offers a "golden list" of attractive investment incentives. Enterprises operating here will enjoy exemption from value-added tax (VAT) on goods and services produced and consumed in the area, as well as goods exported abroad. The 0% VAT rate applies to goods and services exported from Vietnam to the free trade zone or between free trade zones. In particular, import tax exemption for goods imported into the free trade zone for use here will help enterprises save significant costs and improve international competitiveness.
The strategic location of Tam Hoa Free Zone, located in Chu Lai Open Economic Zone and directly connected to Chu Lai Port via Cua Lo route, creates a huge logistics advantage. Enterprises can easily access major markets such as Northeast Asia, Europe and the US through modern maritime transport and logistics systems. In addition, this area also creates favorable conditions for the development of high-quality human resources, promotes international integration and opens up opportunities for trade cooperation with international partners.

THACO - "Conductor" for synchronous development
In the "symphony" of logistics infrastructure development in Chu Lai, THACO Group plays the role of a dedicated "conductor".
As the largest investor in Chu Lai Open Economic Zone, THACO has been entrusted by the People's Committee of Quang Nam province to prepare investment documents for the Cua Lo waterway project through its subsidiary, Dai Quang Minh Real Estate Investment Joint Stock Company.
THACO leaders said that they are not only committed to implementing the project with the highest sense of responsibility, not focusing on immediate profit goals but also aiming for breakthrough development for the region, demonstrating initiative in synchronously developing related infrastructure. Chu Lai International Port, modern logistics system, large shipbuilding projects and expanding international transport routes are part of THACO's comprehensive development strategy, ensuring maximum operational efficiency of Cua Lo route after completion.
Expect a world-class logistics center
The Cua Lo waterway project not only brings direct economic benefits, but also has great social significance. The development of Chu Lai into a multimodal logistics center will create thousands of high-quality jobs for local people, contributing to improving the professional qualifications and skills of the workforce. Regional connectivity through the East-West economic corridor will be strengthened, facilitating trade and cooperation between Central Vietnam and neighboring countries such as Laos and Cambodia.
With the determination of the Quang Nam provincial government, the active participation of THACO Group and the outstanding advantages of strategic location and preferential policies, the Cua Lo waterway project promises to create an important turning point in the socio-economic development of the province. This is not just a simple infrastructure project, but a powerful invitation to domestic and foreign investors to come to Quang Nam, exploit the potential, and create the future together at a promising maritime logistics center. The "door" of Cua Lo is wide open, waiting for "ships" full of opportunities.
