Proposal to handle the provision of false information about the merger of provinces and cities

Information about merging 63 provinces and centrally-run cities into 31 provincial-level administrative units is incorrect.

The document stated that in recent days, social networks have shared a lot of information about the merger of 63 provinces and centrally-run cities into 31 provincial-level administrative units. Regarding this, the Ministry of Home Affairs affirmed that up to this point, the Ministry has not proposed to the Government and competent authorities to merge any provincial-level administrative units. Because this is an important issue, it needs to be studied thoroughly, carefully and must be based on the Party's policy. The merger of provincial-level administrative units is not simply based on the criteria of natural area and population size, but also must be based on other criteria such as national security and defense, protection of sovereignty, geopolitical position, regional and national planning, and culture of the community. Especially to ensure stability for socio-economic development.

The Ministry of Home Affairs requested the Ministry of Public Security to direct cyber security agencies to review and handle the dissemination of false information that causes public confusion and affects social stability.

Earlier, on the afternoon of November 27, Minister of Home Affairs Pham Thi Thanh Tra confirmed that the information and images circulating on social media were incorrect. There is currently no immediate plan to merge provinces and cities.

According to Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra, the Ministry of Home Affairs and relevant agencies are implementing the restructuring of the apparatus towards streamlining, effectiveness and efficiency as directed by the Politburo and General Secretary To Lam. This content has been affirmed by the 13th Central Executive Committee: "This is an especially important task, a revolution in streamlining the apparatus of the political system, requiring a very high level of unity in awareness and action throughout the Party and the entire political system."

In the immediate future, the organizational restructuring will be implemented at the central level. The restructuring of provincial administrative units will be implemented later.
