The General Department of Logistics under the Ministry of National Defense, established in 1950, is the leading agency in the logistics sector in the army, with the function of advising, directing, organizing and ensuring material, food, clothing, accommodation, medical examination and treatment, ensuring health and mobility for soldiers in their daily life and work.
The General Department of Logistics includes functional agencies responsible for logistics staff, military supplies, military medicine, barracks, petroleum, transportation and a number of other affiliated units.
The General Department of Engineering under the Ministry of National Defense, established in 1974, has the function of advising the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense in leading and directing technical assurance work in the People's Army and Militia and Self-Defense Forces.
The General Department of Technology also assists the Minister of National Defense in performing the state management function of technical assurance; directing technical contents in the People's Army and Militia and Self-Defense Force; managing and commanding agencies and units under its authority.
In addition to the two general departments above, the Ministry of National Defense also has the General Department of Defense Industry and the General Department of Defense Intelligence.
On January 22, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh signed the Prime Minister's decisions appointing personnel to the Ministry of National Defense. Accordingly, the Prime Minister transferred and appointed Lieutenant General Tran Minh Duc, Director of the General Department of Engineering, to the position of Director of the General Department of Logistics and Engineering.
Lieutenant General Do Van Thien, Political Commissar of the General Department of Logistics, holds the position of Political Commissar of the General Department of Logistics and Engineering. Major General Luong Van Kiem, Deputy Commander of Military Region 3, holds the position of Commander of Military Region 3.
