Speeding up the progress of Terminal T3 at Tan Son Nhat Airport

(PLVN) - The project to build the T3 Passenger Terminal at Tan Son Nhat Airport is being accelerated by the investor. At one point, the project site had up to 1,700 workers and hundreds of machines operating.

Will finish on April 30 next year

The Tan Son Nhat Airport Terminal 3 construction project, invested by Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), started at the end of 2022 with a total investment of nearly VND 11,000 billion. The most important package of the project is the construction and installation of equipment for the Passenger Terminal, which will start at the end of August 2023.

Recently, the investor ACV held a launching ceremony to compete to complete the construction and put into operation the T3 Passenger Terminal project. Mr. Le Khac Hong, Head of the T3 Passenger Terminal Construction Project Management Board (TMB) of Tan Son Nhat International Airport, said that currently at the construction site, the joint venture contractor regularly mobilizes more than 400 vehicles, equipment and about 1,700 engineers and workers to carry out the construction, closely following the construction site. To date, the project has reached more than 80% of the rough construction volume.

In addition, the viaduct items are 100% complete, 52/58 bridge piers are completed, the aircraft parking lot is ready to be poured with concrete, the structural items, fire prevention, fire fighting and air conditioning systems have been completed according to the construction drawings.

According to the Head of the Project Management Board, the investor is determined to complete the terminal's rough structure by April 30, 2024, shortening the progress by about 2 months to put the T3 Terminal project into operation on April 30 next year in accordance with the direction of the Prime Minister.

Mr. Vu The Phiet, General Director of ACV, said that the units are making efforts to complete the items at the project. The actual amount of work completed at the project site is a testament to the tireless efforts of the investor, contractors and related units. “We and the contractors are committed to completing the project on schedule, that is, on April 30, 2025, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification,” said the General Director of ACV.

The terminal has 90 check-in counters.

Representative of the contractor consortium, Mr. Vo Thanh Phong, Director of the Truong Son 3 Management Board (Truong Son Construction Corporation) said that the contractor is focusing on human resources, finance, machinery, and equipment to organize the construction vigorously, ensuring progress, safety, and quality of the project. Currently, Truong Son is taking advantage of the dry season weather to pour concrete for the construction of the road and bridge deck. Thousands of engineers and workers of the contractor consortium are concentrating on constructing the units of Terminal T3 according to the assigned volume in the consortium agreement.

With the increase in construction, working in 3 shifts and 4 teams, many important items of the terminal are expected to be completed in 2024. Of which, the terminal's rough structure will be completed on the occasion of April 30, the rough structure of the parking lot and non-aviation service center will be completed in mid-June, and the steel structure installation will be completed in early October...

The investor representative added that the T3 Terminal project has an area of ​​over 100,000m2 connecting to the road through Tan Son Nhat airport. When put into operation, T3 Terminal will have two separate departure and arrival levels, 90 check-in counters, 20 automatic baggage counters, 42 check-in kiosks, 27 aircraft gates, 16 baggage conveyor islands, and 25 security control gates.

Terminal T3 ensures a capacity of 20 million passengers/year, increasing the capacity of Tan Son Nhat airport to 50 million passengers/year, meeting 7,000 passengers/peak hour.

Previously, in February 2024, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested to strive to shorten the progress, complete and put into operation the T3 Passenger Terminal project at Tan Son Nhat airport before April 30, 2025. This request was clearly stated in the Prime Minister's conclusion announcement after a working trip to inspect and work on the implementation of key works and projects in the transport sector. The Prime Minister requested more efforts and determination to speed up the project's construction progress, striving to complete ahead of schedule for each work item and the entire project.
