Fighting against criminals taking advantage of delivery services, seizing more than 658 kg of drugs

(HNMO) - On the afternoon of May 22, Hanoi City Police held a conference to evaluate the work of preventing and combating crimes that take advantage of delivery and postal services to commit drug-related crimes.

Subjects and evidence of a case were destroyed.

According to the City Police, in recent times, drug crimes have taken advantage of express delivery and postal services to operate in a complicated manner. The City Police have implemented many measures and solutions to effectively prevent and suppress drug trafficking and in the past 2 years, coordinated with functional units to detect and arrest 35 cases, 57 subjects illegally buying, selling, and transporting drugs via international delivery routes into Vietnam, seizing 931.53 kg of various types of synthetic drugs.

Since the beginning of 2023, authorities have arrested 15 cases, 29 subjects, and seized 658.7 kg of various synthetic drugs.

The tricks of the subjects are to hide the prohibited goods inside the goods being sent, such as hiding them inside teddy bears, speakers, machinery, or vacuum-packing them as they are in the original state of the manufacturer with consumer goods such as tea, candy, coffee, and functional foods.

In addition, the City Police also coordinated with other units to discover a number of cases of mail containing weapons packaged in packages of household goods such as rice cookers, machinery, etc.

The above results have contributed to preventing the supply of drugs from abroad into Vietnam, which has been recognized and highly appreciated by all levels, sectors and people. At the conference, delegates also frankly pointed out the shortcomings, limitations, difficulties, obstacles and causes; presented lessons learned, recommendations and proposals to sectors and levels for solutions; and at the same time proposed immediate and long-term measures and solutions to further improve the effectiveness of the fight against crimes that take advantage of delivery and postal services to commit drug-related crimes.
