The Phu Phong dam project across the Kon River, Phu Phong town (Tay Son district, Binh Dinh) is invested by the Binh Dinh Provincial Agricultural and Rural Development Project Management Board and started construction in February 2022. The dam is over 589m long, including a dam section with a 350m wide gate with 20 bays with gates, and a 239m wide spillway on both sides. The dam is combined with a 10m wide traffic bridge with 29 spans, the main beam is constructed of prestressed reinforced concrete. Up to now, the contractor has basically completed the construction items, ensuring safety during the flood season this year. Workers are completing the remaining items before this year's flood season. The management and operation area of Phu Phong dam project has been basically completed.
The guards of the operating system are designed with the idea of leaves falling on the river. Once completed, with a projection system, the project will cast shadows on the river like falling leaves. When completed, the Phu Phong dam project will meet the needs of domestic water, agricultural and industrial production, aquaculture, improve the ecological environment; "quench the thirst" of 1,000 hectares of production land in the communes of Binh Nghi, Tay Xuan, Tay Phu... In addition, the Phu Phong dam project also connects traffic on both banks of the Kon River, from National Highway 19 to National Highway 19B to Phu Cat Airport. Connecting the center of Tay Son district with the northern communes of the district and the western communes of Phu Cat district, creating favorable conditions for trade, contributing to promoting the local socio-economic development.
