"An unprecedented phenomenon" as Mr. Vu Duc Tung, acting Director of the National Cinema Center (Hanoi) called the film "Peach, Pho and Piano" has attracted thousands of audiences to the theaters in recent days.

The center has cut the screening of Tran Thanh's hot movie "Mai" to increase the screening of "Dao, Pho and Piano" from 3 to 11, then 18, but to "hunt" for a pair of tickets is still a fierce "battle" for many people.

“Đào, phở và piano” hết vé, phim “Mai” còn rất nhiều!
The photo with the status line "No more "Peach" left, only "Mai" left!" was shared on the evening of February 20 on a Fanpage with more than 4 million followers.

At the ticket counter, the center had to announce with 3 bullet points: Currently, the online ticket system is overloaded, so payment cannot be made by scanning QR codes at the counter; there are still many tickets for the movie “Mai”; tickets for the movie “Dao, Pho…” on February 20 are sold out, and there are only a few time slots left the next day, February 21.

The film's appeal also caused the National Cinema Center's website to crash for many days due to the large number of visitors, and as of the night of February 20, it still had not been fixed.

Because “Dao, Pho and Piano” is only shown at the National Cinema Center, it would be lame and hasty to rate this film as hotter than other films like “Mai” or “Gap lai chi bau” which are shown nationwide with thousands of screenings a day.

However, the statistics of Box Office Vietnam on February 20 are also something for us to dare to put on the scale of comparison, when the ticket sales rate of "Dao, Pho and Piano" reached more than 200 tickets/showing, while hot movies like "Mai" averaged only 65 tickets/showing, "Gap lai chi bau" only 29.7 tickets/showing.

As of the afternoon of February 20, more than 13,000 tickets had been sold exclusively for “Peach, Pho and Piano”, with estimated revenue of nearly 700 million VND - a quite impressive figure for a film ordered by the State and sold at only one theater.

Why does “Peach, Pho and Piano” attract so many audiences to the theaters? Why is a historical film, without any media, so popular?

There are many factors that lead to this result, such as the "social media push" that many people are mentioning, curiosity, crowd psychology... But the key must be the quality of the film, the script, the acting, and the natural fragrance!

If the movie is not good, the script is not good, not suitable for the trend, not touching the emotions, then no matter how good the media is, no matter how many tricks, the audience will not spend money, spend time to see it.

Look at “Hồng Hà Nữ Sĩ” – a film ordered by the State to be released on the same day, on February 20th, there were 3 screenings, only 54 tickets were sold, earning a mere 2.7 million VND.

Not long ago, there were "Legend of King Dinh", "Living with History", "The Hero's Destiny"... and many other films, despite large investments, continuously failed at the box office.

The reasons for these failures have been dissected by many managers, cultural experts, and historical researchers. In short, with 4,000 years of building and defending the country, Vietnamese history is a fertile land, with many good materials to make a film, but it has not been exploited to its full potential.

This is proven by “Dao, Pho and Piano” itself when not only did the website crash and tickets sell out, but according to Director of the Department of Cinema Vi Kien Thanh, there are currently two private film enterprises, Beta Media and Cinestar, proactively contacting the department, expressing their desire to show the film “Dao, Pho and Piano” at their theaters.

It also proves one more thing, that the audience is not not fond of historical films. If the film is of good quality, in line with the trend, and the content touches the emotions of the audience, it can be brought to the theater to "compete" and create a "box office storm".

And more than that, through these films, we can also portray our country's history in the most complete and heroic way, helping Vietnamese people love history more, as Chinese and Korean cinema have done very well for many years.
