On January 11, Hanoi City Police said that recently on Facebook, a fake account "Vietnam Basketball Federation VBF" appeared, announcing enrollment for basketball classes to lure people to register and then appropriate their property.

Taking advantage of the interest of many families in basketball, some people have created fake Facebook pages of "Vietnam Basketball Federation VBF".

When parents register for the course, the subjects ask to download the Telegram application to be guided by the "expert" to participate in a number of tasks to confirm sports equipment and reduce tuition fees.

After a number of low-value tasks, the subjects ask the registrant to perform a high-value task. At this time, using the excuse that the registrant entered the wrong syntax, the subjects ask the victim to perform the task many times or transfer more money to be able to withdraw the money.

When the amount reaches hundreds of millions, even billions of dong, the subjects will disconnect and delete the chat group on the Telegram application.

On January 5, Ms. D. (born in 1994, in Cau Giay) registered her child for basketball lessons through the Facebook page "Vietnam Basketball Federation VBF".

After that, she was instructed to download the Telegram application to perform the task and was robbed of 1.1 billion VND. Realizing that she had been scammed, Ms. D. went to the Trung Hoa Ward Police (Cau Giay District) to report.

To avoid fraud, Hanoi Police recommends that people be vigilant when registering for basketball classes and other sports advertised on social networks. If interested, they should go directly to the centers and training facilities to find out.

When encountering signs of fraud, people need to immediately contact the police for timely resolution.
