Focus on supporting livelihoods for poor households

In order to create conditions for poor and near-poor households to receive livelihood support and access to basic services, from the capital of the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction, Dak To district has focused on directing departments, branches and communes and towns to select subjects and support content suitable to the local characteristics. In particular, the district has approved 18 projects to support the development of value chain-linked production (planting macadamia and rubber trees) for 448 poor and near-poor households to participate, with a support budget of more than 6 billion VND.

From 2021 to present, the district has approved 27 projects to raise breeding cows in the community for 165 poor and near-poor households, with an implementation cost of more than 4 billion VND... The projects to support breeding cows are suitable for the production capacity of the people, so they have been effective. In particular, along with support for breeding cows, people are also guided by district and commune officials on raising cows with barns and care techniques, so all supported cows have developed well.

Up to now, the pair of cows are growing well and are about to have another calf. Everyone in the family is happy and will take good care of them to have a stable income from raising cows.

Along with the implementation of the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction, the People's Committee of Dak To district directed the communes to focus on effectively implementing the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas, period 2021 - 2030, phase I: From 2021 - 2025 (abbreviated as National Target Program 1719), the district has reviewed and supported residential land, housing, production land, conversion of occupations, and dispersed domestic water for 140 households, with a total cost of more than 7 billion VND. More than 1,000 households have been supported in livelihood development, production development with 03 production linkage chains, implementing the planting of more than 201 hectares of macadamia trees, more than 30 hectares of turmeric, more than 48 hectares of scattered fruit trees; more than 167 people have created new jobs; 83 households have been supported in housing...

Ms. Pham Thi Hien, Head of the Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs of Dak To district, said: In addition to implementing livelihood support, Dak To district also focuses on improving the quality of rural labor resources in the district. In the period of 2021 - 2024 alone, the district organized enrollment and opened 38 vocational training classes for 1,267 workers (mainly workers in ethnic minority communes) from the budget of the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction and the National Target Program 1719. Thereby, helping workers to create jobs for themselves and participate in labor in cooperatives, small enterprises or general labor.

Improve people's lives

Along with supporting livelihoods, Dak To district also focuses on investing in essential infrastructure to serve production and life in ethnic minority areas; investing in installing loudspeaker systems to ensure improved poverty reduction results in terms of information... Up to now, 9/9 communes and towns have car roads to the commune center; 61/61 villages have asphalted and concreted rural roads; 100% of communes and towns are covered by radio and television, ensuring to serve the spiritual needs of the people.
