On the afternoon of July 1st at Furama, Da Nang, the press conference of the 2nd Da Nang Asian Film Festival 2024 officially took place with the participation of many famous international, Asian and Vietnamese stars, filmmakers, and film experts; filmmakers whose works are participating in the Film Festival.
Following the success of the First Da Nang Asian Film Festival, the People's Committee of Da Nang City continues to direct, the Vietnam Film Promotion and Development Association (VFDA) presides, coordinates with the Department of Culture and Sports, Department of Tourism and other departments of Da Nang City, UNIMedia Company and the organizing units of the Second Da Nang Asian Film Festival, 2024 (2nd Da Nang Asian Film Festival - DANAFF II) from July 2 - 6, 2024 in Da Nang.
DANAFF II will select and honor outstanding cinematographic works, rich in humanity, with new discoveries and unique artistic expression; encourage talents, widely introduce to the public new cinematographic works, with high value in content and art of Vietnamese cinema, the Asia-Pacific region and selected films of world cinema.
The Opening Press Conference of the 2nd Da Nang Asian Film Festival was attended by delegates and distinguished guests. On the Da Nang side, Mr. Tran Chi Cuong - Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee - Head of the Film Festival Organizing Committee; Mr. Ha Vy - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Da Nang City - Deputy Head of the Film Festival Organizing Committee; Mr. Hong Quang Dang - Deputy Director of Da Nang Radio and Television Station; On the Vietnam Cinema Promotion and Development Association side, there were Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan - President of the Vietnam Cinema Promotion and Development Association - Co-Head of the Committee, Director of the Film Festival; Ms. Ly Phuong Dung - Deputy Director of the Vietnam Cinema Department - Vice President of the Vietnam Cinema Promotion and Development Association and delegates attending the Da Nang Asian Film Festival, including famous international, Asian and Vietnamese stars, filmmakers and film experts; filmmakers whose works participated in the Film Festival... especially the participation of Mr. Park Kwang-su - Chairman of Busun Film Festival, personally introduced by Ms. Ngo Phuong Lan at the Press Conference.
Many outstanding activities and events are held within the framework of DANAFF II. The Opening Ceremony on July 2, 2024 and the Closing Ceremony - Award Ceremony on July 6, 2024 will be broadcast live on Vietnam Television (VTV8 and VTV2), Da Nang Television, Security TV, National Assembly Television, provincial and municipal television stations nationwide and digital relay platforms; Film screenings at Le Do, CGV, Galaxy, Starlight cinemas and outdoor screenings at: Lien Chieu District Administrative Park (July 3), Crescent Circle on Nhu Nguyet Street (July 4), Crescent Circle on Bach Dang Walking Street (July 5) with a total of 103 screenings; Meeting and chat program between the audience and the film crew; Exchange program between famous artists and the audience; Seminars and talks: Seminar "French cinema and its relationship with Vietnamese cinema" (8:30 a.m. on July 3); Seminar “Sharing experiences in connecting coastal film festivals” (4:00 p.m., July 3); Seminar “Director Dang Nhat Minh’s writing style” (9:00 a.m., July 4); Workshop “Film production cooperation - international experience and development solutions” (9:00 a.m., July 5); Workshop “Nurturing talent” (Opening at 2:00 p.m., July 1; Closing at 11:00 a.m., July 6).
In particular, for the first time in Vietnam, DANAFF II will present the Cinema Achievement Award to an outstanding filmmaker. At the Film Festival Opening Press Conference, Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan - Director of the Film Festival revealed that the Cinema Achievement Award was given to People's Artist Dang Nhat Minh for his great contributions to the country's cinema.
The Opening and Closing Ceremony - Award Ceremony will be produced by UNIMedia Company of General Director Tran Viet Bao Hoang, directed by Tran Vi My, the performances will focus on introducing the culture, hospitality of Da Nang people as well as the characteristics of Asian cinema; promoting the spirit of "Vietnam integration" and promoting the image of a dynamic, bustling Vietnam through the image of Da Nang city - a bridge connecting Vietnam with Asia and the world.
The highlight of DANAFF II is the competition of films in two categories: Asian Film Competition Category and Vietnamese Film Competition Category with the Jury consisting of experts in the field of Vietnamese and international cinema, specifically:
For the Asian Film category, the President of the Jury is the famous French director and writer of Chinese origin Dai Si Jie. Members of the Jury include former Director of the CineFondation of the Cannes Film Festival Georges Goldenstern (France); Director of the Berlin Film Festival (2019 - 2024) Meriette Rissenbeek (Germany); actress Tran Nu Yen Khe; young director Ha Le Diem.
For the Vietnamese Film category, the President of the Jury is the famous Hong Kong director Quan Cam Bang; the Jury members include producer Tran Thi Bich Ngoc; actress, People's Artist Le Khanh; director Leon Quang Le and coordinator, Program Director Lorna Tee - General Secretary of the Asian Film Alliance Network (AFAN).
NETPAC Award, Chairman of the Jury is Mr. Jean-Marc Thérouanne (Co-Founder, Co-Director of the Vesoul Asian Film Festival (France); Jury members are Dr. Mara Matta, Sapienza University, Rome (Italy); Associate Professor, Dr. Phan Thi Bich Ha, Former Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Cinema, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Van Lang University.
Non-competition film screening programs include: "Today's Vietnamese Cinema" film screening program, "Focus on French Cinema" film screening program, Da Nang film screening program, Varan film program.
Movie tickets are distributed free of charge by the Organizing Committee at Le Do Cinema - 46 Tran Phu Street, Hai Chau District, Da Nang. In addition, the Second Da Nang Asian Film Festival will also have a press conference held on the afternoon of July 3, 2024 at Furama Resort with the participation of 11 film crews including both Vietnamese and foreign.
The DANAFF 2024 “Talent Incubation” Workshop Season 2 will include 2 classes for young people who love acting and want to become professional actors: “Basic Acting” class (17 students selected from more than 400 applications) with instructor Lydia Park (Korea) and “Advanced Acting” class (21 students) with instructor Tsuyoshi Sugiyama (Japan). The instructors of the class are Phan Dang Di and Nguyen Hoang Diep (Vietnam).
There will be two film screenings opening two highlight programs of DANAFF II: Opening the French Cinema Highlights program and screening the film Muon Vi Nhan Gian (9:30 a.m. on July 2, 2024) and Opening the Selected Films program by director Dang Nhat Minh and screening the film Hanoi in the Winter of 1946 (3:00 p.m. on July 2, 2024); Exchange with artists, filmmakers and the audience (7:30 p.m. on July 4, 2024).
The Da Nang sightseeing tour program chooses Ba Na Hills, Hoi An or Da Nang night tour as destinations. This activity will take place on July 4, 2024 and this is also an opportunity to promote Quang Nam tourism to international friends.
