The standard score of Foreign Trade University is 30.3, exceeding the 30 mark as regulated by the Ministry of Education and Training due to priority points.
On June 15, Foreign Trade University announced the early admission benchmarks for three methods, including considering transcripts for candidates who won provincial excellent student awards or studied at specialized schools (method 1); considering a combination of transcripts with international language certificates or standardized test scores of ACT, SAT, A-Level (method 2); considering the competency assessment test scores of two national universities (method 5).
Methods 1 and 2 both have a benchmark score of 30, but the group considering transcripts with candidates winning national excellent student awards gets 30.4 points.
Meanwhile, according to the university admission regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, from 2023, the priority points for candidates with a total score of 22.5 or higher will gradually decrease. Those with a total score of 30 in three subjects will no longer be given priority. Therefore, the university admission score cannot exceed 30.

Explaining this, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Thi Hien, Head of Training Management Department, Foreign Trade University, said that the admission score in the method of considering academic records combined with excellent student awards includes three components: the average score of 5 semesters (excluding semester II of grade 12) of three subjects in the admission combination (maximum 30), priority points according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training (2.75), and bonus points for excellent student awards (maximum 2 points for provincial awards, 4 points for national awards). Thus, if the bonus points according to the Ministry's policy are not calculated, the maximum score that candidates can achieve is 32 or 34.
According to Ms. Hien, this has been announced by the school in the enrollment plan. Therefore, to comply with the Ministry's policy, the candidates' scores are converted to a 30-point scale. When announcing, the school includes both the raw score and the converted score.
Ms. Hien affirmed that the conversion does not affect the candidates' admission rankings, because the formula is applied to all candidates registering for that group. "The conversion of scores is technical and does not affect the candidates' admission rights," Ms. Hien said.
For groups where no candidate has a score exceeding 30 points, Foreign Trade University does not convert. For example, the group considering academic records combined with national excellent student awards, Logistics program and supply chain management (international career orientation) takes the standard score of 30. In reality, this level is 30/34.

Ms. Hien said that the announcement of both raw and converted scores is to avoid confusion for candidates when they see a different calculation method from the admission plan. She advised candidates to stick to the information in the plan, from the admission score calculation formula to the admission timeline, to avoid confusion or missing important tasks.
Previously, on May 26, Hanoi Law University announced the admission score for the Economic Law major, group A01 (Math, Physics, English) as 30.3 points. However, a few hours later, the school had to announce that the admission score had been lowered to 30 points to comply with the requirements of the Ministry of Education and Training. In essence, this score is 30/31.5, not absolute. The way to calculate admission scores is similar to that of Foreign Trade University.
Currently, most universities are in the early admission stage with methods such as using transcripts, foreign language certificates, academic certificates, excellent student awards, ability and thinking assessment test scores... Last year, of more than 520,000 university applicants, 48% were admitted by considering transcripts.
This year, candidates in this category must register their wishes on the Ministry's common system from July 10 to 30 to be officially recognized as admitted.
