Glorious historical milestone

At the ceremony, Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Quang read a speech about the historical journey with many difficulties and challenges but also the glorious and heroic journey of the city.

95 years ago, on March 28, 1930, at Truong Le sandbank, Hoi An, comrade Nguyen Phong Sac, who was assigned to be in charge of the Central Region Party Committee, announced the merger of 3 Communist organizations and proposed that Quang Nam - Da Nang establish the Communist Party of Vietnam in Quang Nam province, including the Communist Party of Vietnam in Tourane town (later Da Nang city). From here, the people of Quang Nam - Da Nang entered a new period - a period of fighting under the banner of national independence and socialism under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

On this day exactly 50 years ago, at 11:30 a.m. on March 29, 1975, the "Determination to fight, Determination to win" flag of our army and people fluttered on the roof of Da Nang City Hall, marking an important historical event: Da Nang City was liberated.

“The victory of the General Offensive and Uprising to liberate Da Nang in the Spring of 1975 is a shining symbol of patriotism and revolutionary heroism; a wonderful epic about the noble sacrifice, indomitable spirit and steadfast revolutionary will of our army and people; a crystallization of the tradition of "Loyalty, steadfastness, leading the way to destroy the Americans" of the homeland of Quang Nam - Da Nang; an important contribution to the victory of the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, creating the Great Victory of Spring 1975. Time will pass, but March 28, 1930 - the founding day of the Da Nang Party Committee and March 29, 1975 - the day of the liberation of Da Nang city will forever be the most brilliant page in the history of the heroic city of Da Nang”, emphasized Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Quang.

After the country's reunification, in the period of 1975 - 1996, under the leadership of the Quang Nam - Da Nang Provincial Party Committee, the city's army and people focused on overcoming the consequences of war, creatively implementing the renovation policy, and doing well in Party building, creating important momentum for development in the following years.

The city's economy has grown quite well over the years; the average growth rate of the total social product in the area reached more than 9%/year; compared to 1997, the economic scale increased by about 45 times; the budget revenue in the area increased by more than 25.6 times; the average income per capita increased by 21 times.

The most prominent feature of the city is the urban planning and renovation, and the synchronous development of infrastructure; from a small city, Da Nang is now a locality with an urbanization rate of 87.2%, twice as high as the national average. Along with that, the economic structure has shifted in the right direction; the service sector leads the country in terms of proportion and growth rate.

In particular, the digital economy has contributed 24.7% to the city's total social product; Da Nang is the country's leader in digital transformation on all three pillars: Digital Government, Digital Economy and Digital Society; is the leader among the five centrally-run cities in the Provincial Governance and Public Administration Performance Index (PAPI) and has received the Vietnam Smart City Award for 5 consecutive years. Tourism has become a key economic sector, forming a competitive brand of international stature. Da Nang has become an attractive, safe and friendly destination for domestic and foreign tourists.

Along with economic development, the city focuses on synchronous and harmonious development of the cultural and social fields with important achievements in culture, education and training, health care, science and technology, sports, literature and arts...; many major political, cultural and sports events of national and international significance are held in Da Nang such as the 2017 APEC Summit and the International Film Festival.

Huynh Nguyen Yen Nhi - student of University of Economics, Danang University - representative of the city's young generation expressed her feelings.

In particular, Da Nang city has issued many breakthrough policies with strong humanism and superiority that have been approved and highly appreciated by public opinion. In addition, the city has allocated large investment resources for medical infrastructure from the grassroots to the city to increasingly better care for the health of the people of the city and the provinces in the region, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, Da Nang has been successful in protecting the health and lives of the people. Therefore, Da Nang's Human Development Index is always among the best in the country.

In recent times, the city has been proactive with high determination and great efforts, and the Central Government has issued many specific mechanisms and policies as a foundation, creating momentum for the sustainable and long-term development of the city: Mechanisms to resolve and remove projects that have existed for many years; develop new economic models, establish Free Trade Zones, build International Financial Centers; officially organize urban government; attract strategic investors to develop the microchip, semiconductor, and artificial intelligence industries...

Be proactive to break through

To successfully implement the set goals and requirements, the Secretary of the City Party Committee emphasized that the Party Committee, government and people of the city need to focus on implementing well the work of Party building and rectification in conjunction with promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle; successfully organizing Party congresses at all levels towards the 14th National Party Congress.

Along with that, focus on doing a good job of organizing the apparatus and administrative units to ensure streamlining, effective and efficient operations, along with promoting democracy, innovating leadership style and methods, working methods, attaching importance to building internal solidarity; actively preventing and combating corruption, waste, and negativity; promoting administrative reform associated with building urban government.

Proactively attract, discover, nurture and make good use of talented people; build a team of cadres, civil servants and public employees with good moral qualities, aspirations to advance, solidarity, discipline, daring to think, daring to do, knowing how to do, daring to take responsibility, building a professional digital administration, oriented towards serving the people, respecting the people and being supervised by the people.

Along with that, strongly promote economic growth associated with economic restructuring, taking science and technology, innovation, digital transformation as the main driving force, striving to build Da Nang into a new science and technology center of the country; a center for startups, innovation... and soon form and develop an International Financial Center and Free Trade Zone; research and develop a Project to expand development space at sea; build a synchronous, modern infrastructure system, connecting smooth traffic to develop Da Nang into a major center of tourism, trade, finance, logistics, high-tech industry, information technology, supporting industry; be one of the centers of culture - sports, education - training, high-quality healthcare, science and technology development of the country; a center for organizing international events; be a seaport city, an international coastal city with the role of the nucleus of the urban chain and growth pole of the key economic region of the Central - Central Highlands; become an ecological, modern, smart and livable city. At the same time, focus on environmental management and protection; proactively respond to and limit the harmful effects of climate change.

At the same time, Da Nang invests in cultural and social development commensurate with economic development; ensures social security and further improves the quality of people's lives; researches and builds a socialist model that comprehensively develops the characteristics of socialist people in Da Nang city. Strengthens national defense and security; maintains political stability and social order and safety in all situations.

At the ceremony, General Secretary To Lam presented the First Class Labor Medal, a noble award of the Party and State to the Party Committee, Government and People of Da Nang City. This was to acknowledge the great contributions of the Party Committee, Government and People of Da Nang City in the cause of building socialism and defending the Fatherland.

On the journey into the new era, Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Quang expressed his wish to continue receiving the attention, leadership, direction, support and assistance of General Secretary To Lam, the Central Executive Committee, the Politburo, the Secretariat, the National Assembly, the Government and central ministries, departments and branches, and the close and affectionate coordination of other provinces and cities so that Da Nang can develop rapidly and sustainably, becoming a major socio-economic center of the country.

In the joyful atmosphere of the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Da Nang City Party Committee and the 50th anniversary of the City Liberation Day, the Secretary of the City Party Committee called on the Party committees, authorities, cadres, soldiers and people of the city to promote the revolutionary historical tradition and the achievements that have been achieved, with the aspiration to rise up with the whole country, to form a unified bloc, to join hands and hearts, to join forces, to bring all efforts, enthusiasm, talent and intelligence, to strive to overcome all difficulties and challenges, to firmly step into the new era - the era of national strength.
