(Dan Tri) - After many hours of effort, on the afternoon of December 23, rescue forces brought all the motorbikes, property and the ferry that sank that morning to shore.

On the afternoon of December 23, speaking with Dan Tri reporter, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Hoa - Political Commissar of Ky Ha Port Border Guard Station (Nui Thanh District, Quang Nam Province) - said that at 2:30 p.m., 16 motorbikes, a laptop and 13 mobile phones from the sunken ferry were brought ashore.

At 5:15 p.m., the rescue team also brought the damaged ferry ashore, ending the rescue operation.

Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Hoa said that a total of more than 40 people participated in the rescue, including border guards, police, militia, local officials and some residents.

According to Mr. Ngo Duc An, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nui Thanh District, the authorities have recorded a total of 21 people on the sunken ferry; including 20 passengers and one driver, not 14 people on the ferry as initially reported.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhu Y (residing in Xuan My village, Tam Hai commune), a witness to the ferry sinking, said that this ferry terminal is normally empty of passengers.

"Because on the morning of December 23, the ferry at the lower pier had an accident, so people crowded to this pier but unfortunately the ferry sank. Fortunately, there were no casualties," said Ms. Y.

Ms. Y also hopes that the government will invest in a ferry for Xuan My village so that people can travel more safely. People in the village depend on a ferry, and every time they want to go somewhere, they have to wait for an hour, making it very difficult to cross the river.

Ms. Vo Thi Yen (residing in Xuan My village, Tam Hai commune) said that the villagers live on 3 small island clusters, the biggest frustration of the people going to the commune is waiting for the ferry for a long time, making travel difficult.

As Dan Tri reported, at around 7:00 a.m. on December 23, at the ferry terminal in Chua hamlet, Xuan My village, Tam Hai commune, a ferry carrying 20 passengers and the ferryman unfortunately sank.

Luckily, all passengers were safe. However, many motorbikes and other people's property were sunk with the ferry.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the ferry sinking.
