NDO - After 12 years of construction since 2012, the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line 1 with a length of nearly 20km is about to "reach the finish line", officially serving the people of Ho Chi Minh City on December 22.
Metro Line 1 is also the first metro line in Ho Chi Minh City, built with a total investment of more than 43,700 billion VND, connecting the city center with the eastern gateway, with 11 elevated stations and 3 underground stations. The first station is also the Central Station, Ben Thanh Station and the final station of the journey is Suoi Tien Station.
The first metro line of Ho Chi Minh City has gone through a long journey, with both advantages and difficulties, but with the determination of the Ho Chi Minh City government, the City Urban Railway Management Board, experts, and engineers from the country and Japan, it has created an urban railway project with new and advanced construction techniques in Vietnam. From there, it has contributed to building a civilized, modern, and worthy public transport face of the city.
In particular, on the official operating day of December 22 and thereafter, the trains will “roll” through the final station, Suoi Tien station, and then return to Long Binh Depot for staff to inspect, repair, and maintain the trains to ensure that they are always in good condition and ready to serve passengers. In the coming period, the number of trains may increase depending on actual travel demand. |
According to the Director of Urban Railway Company No. 1 (HURC1): To commercially operate the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien Metro Line, the company has trained a team of 291 station staff, 9 station managers, 61 train driving technicians, 24 dispatch technicians and 64 maintenance staff. Of which, the train drivers will operate the train using a self-driving or “automatic” control mechanism. |
Train driver technicians check Metro train No. 1 before receiving it. |
At the Central Control Room - OCC (located near Long Binh Depot), each shift of six people will check equipment, check the safety of the station system, and receive information from train drivers to help ensure absolute safety in the operation of metro lines. |
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, passengers traveling on Metro Line 1 will receive 100% support for ticket prices within 30 days from the date the line begins commercial operation. |
Initially, metro passengers can use EMV cards issued by Mastercard to travel. People who do not have a card will be issued an anonymous or identified card (if required) to be scanned at the entrance and exit gates at the stations. |
In order to facilitate the movement of city residents along metro line 1, nine pedestrian bridges have been completed to be put into operation in time when metro line 1 starts to welcome passengers. |
Pedestrian bridges play an important role in ensuring passenger access to elevated stations (including Tan Cang, Thao Dien, An Phu, Rach Chiec, Phuoc Long, Binh Thai and High-Tech stations; Thu Duc bridge, National University), creating favorable conditions and safety for people to move. |
The City Public Transport Management Center has invested in the construction and completion of five parking lots located near the metro station areas: Van Thanh, Thao Dien, Rach Chiec, Phuoc Long, Binh Thai. |
