Striker Nguyen Cong Phuong will wear the number 70 shirt at Binh Phuoc Club. This is a surprising number, because for most of his career playing for HAGL, the player born in 1995 wore the number 10 shirt. In the Vietnam national team, Cong Phuong also often wears the number 10 shirt.
In 2019, Cong Phuong wore the numbers 23 and 27 when playing for Incheon United (Korea) and Sint-Truidense (Belgium). Later, when moving to Yokohama FC (Japan), Cong Phuong wore the number 28. This was an understandable choice, because the number 10 shirt (which was originally reserved for attacking stars) was already occupied before Cong Phuong arrived, so the Nghe An player had to choose another number. At Binh Phuoc Club, Cong Phuong will reunite with Nguyen Anh Duc, his former teammate in the Vietnam national team, who is now the team's head coach. Former technical director of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Yusuke Adachi also joined Binh Phuoc Club last season, taking on the task of becoming the technical director and building a sustainable structure for the Southeast team.
Cong Phuong played for HAGL and participated in the V-League in two periods 2015-2019 and 2021-2022, with three overseas trips in between to Mito Hollyhock (2016), Incheon United (2019) and Sint-Truidense (2019).
Cong Phuong's peak in the V-League was the 2021 season. The 29-year-old striker flew high with 6 goals, topping the table with HAGL before the tournament was canceled. Cong Phuong then played for HAGL for the 2022 season (scoring 5 goals in 16 matches), before moving to Yokohama FC.
