Speaking with Thanh Nien last night and this morning (Vietnam time), College Board representatives provided detailed information about support plans for candidates who encountered 'technical problems' during the recent SAT exam.
College Board details plans to help candidates experiencing "technical issues" while taking the SAT
Specifically, Ms. Holly Stepp, Executive Director of External Communications and Press Relations, informed that during the international SAT exam held on March 8, some candidates encountered "technical problems" with the Bluebook application, causing the exam to be automatically submitted before completion. "We have identified the cause of the problem and have implemented a solution for the next exams," the College Board representative shared.
Bluebook is an application for candidates to take the SAT test online (SAT Digital), and also acts as a learning resource providing candidates with many sample tests, knowledge bases to prepare, and information related to the SAT test.
For those affected by the incident, Stepp said they will be refunded their March 8 test fee and will receive a free SAT registration form for a future test date. Additionally, affected candidates can choose to cancel their March 8 test results or keep their current scores. "We deeply apologize to those who were unable to complete the test and to the difficulties and frustrations this incident has caused," Stepp said.
"The College Board will contact affected students to inform them of their retesting options, depending on availability at their testing center," the College Board representative added.
As Thanh Nien reported, at the SAT test site at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, a candidate said that when there were only about 22 minutes left to finish the test, the system automatically submitted his test. The test site at the Banking Academy also had a similar problem at the same time, due to slow procedures, the system automatically submitted the test when there were nearly 25 minutes left. This also happened to many candidates in Hanoi on the morning of March 8.
Previously, sharing at the American Center (HCMC) at the end of 2024, Mr. Haike Zhao, Deputy Director of International Affairs at College Board, said that in the first half of 2025, candidates can register for the remaining days of May 3 and June 7. To take the exam, candidates can register through the authorized unit in Vietnam, IIG Vietnam, or high schools can connect with College Board representatives to open test sites right at the school.
The SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) was first introduced in 1926 and has gradually become popular in US university admissions. From 2023, the SAT will be computer-based at College Board authorized locations. The SAT test takes 134 minutes to complete, with 54 reading and writing questions and 44 math questions. In Vietnam, universities often use the results of this exam for combined admissions or direct admissions.
