On the afternoon of August 28, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City organized a transfer instruction for parents of students at the American International School.
The consultation session was conducted at 2 locations: Primary school students were guided at 2:00 p.m. at Trang Tan Khuong Primary School, 36 Nguyen Van Tao Street, Long Thoi Commune, Nha Be District.
Middle and high school students will receive instruction at 2:00 p.m. at Long Thoi High School, 280 Nguyen Van Tao Street, Long Thoi Commune, Nha Be District.
However, at the counseling point of Long Thoi High School, there are very few parents coming to receive counseling.
A parent attending the consultation said: "The family is still researching and has not yet decided which school to send their child to continue studying."
Meanwhile, another parent said she had asked to transfer her child to a middle school in District 7. "My child will soon take the entrance exam and that's it," the parent said.
Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City said that after checking, as of the evening of August 27, there were about 360 students who had not transferred schools. The total number of students at the American International School is about 1,000.
"For the remaining students, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has worked with the Department of Education and Training of districts and Thu Duc City to assign them to suitable schools. At the same time, today's meeting is organized to guide parents to transfer schools, helping students to quickly settle down at the beginning of the school year," Mr. Quoc informed.
The transfer of schools is carried out by the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City based on a number of contents such as information on student identification with information on place of residence, checking with Project 06 to accurately review and distribute to schools in localities suitable to current place of residence.
At the same time, also review the school's targets as well as the school's facilities, rooms, equipment, and staff to see if they are qualified to accept more students.
Regarding the number of students who have transferred schools, Mr. Quoc said that the students who have transferred schools are very diverse, some students have transferred to international schools, some students have transferred to non-public schools.
"Regarding the American International School, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has issued a document suspending educational activities, has had discussions and sent a document to the American International School stating that it does not meet the conditions to resume operations. We hope that parents will follow the documents and instructions of the Department to coordinate to help students have a stable place to study," Mr. Quoc added.
The American International School has been suspended from operation by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training since July 1, 2024 (suspension period of 12 months) due to failure to ensure teaching conditions, due to lack of financial resources, teachers, and staff.
The Tax Department of District 7 - Nha Be District (HCMC) has just sent a document to the City People's Committee requesting the revocation of the license to establish the American International Primary, Secondary and High School (commonly known as the American International School) under the American International Education Joint Stock Company AIS.
