Ready to "hit the streets" in 2025
Decision No. 108/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister approving the Master Plan for Thua Thien Hue Urban Area to 2045, with a vision to 2065, has clearly established the roadmap for Thua Thien Hue to become a centrally-run city. Accordingly, when Hue becomes a centrally-run city, it will be a unique urban area in terms of ecology, landscape, environmental friendliness and intelligence. The entire administrative boundary of Thua Thien Hue with a total area of about 4,947.1 km2 will be within the planning scope.
According to the planning approved by the Prime Minister, when becoming a centrally-run city, Hue city will be a type I city, a centrally-run city with special characteristics; an urban area developed on the basis of preserving and promoting the values of tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the ancient capital, Hue's cultural identity; an urban area with unique ecology, landscape, environmental friendliness and intelligence.
Hue will be the growth pole of the Central region's dynamic region in terms of marine economy, tourism economy, a major center of the country in science - technology, specialized healthcare, multi-sector, multi-field, high-quality education and training; an international tourism center; a center for industrial development and the country's seaports; in which tourism is the spearhead economic sector, information technology and communications is the breakthrough, high-tech industry and agriculture are the foundation.
The model and structure of Hue's urban space will develop according to the model of urban chains along economic corridors, traffic corridors combined with dynamic centers. The urban areas will be developed synchronously, playing a role in supporting socio-economic development, preserving and promoting the unique values of the ancient capital and the tangible and intangible cultural heritage recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
What opportunities for investors?
Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province, Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong said that in order to achieve optimal results in investment promotion, every year, the province builds an investment promotion program and sets out viewpoints, orientations and goals in promoting the call for domestic and foreign investors in all fields; promoting administrative procedure reform, improving the investment environment; and promoting the synchronous construction of infrastructure.
“The approved provincial planning is an opportunity for Thua Thien Hue to continue to exploit its geo-economic and political position more effectively, promote its unique strengths, and take advantage of opportunities in the new period, aiming for rapid and sustainable development. At the same time, the planning also helps investors identify the potential, advantages and specific directions when choosing to invest in the province,” said Mr. Phuong.
According to the plan, by 2030, Phu Bai International Airport will build more taxiways, expand the passenger terminal, civil cargo area and aircraft parking lot to meet the capacity of 7 million passengers/year, 200,000 tons of cargo/year (or larger when needed); upgrade the airport to meet the standards of a level 4E civil airport, a level I military airport; form an ICD port connecting to the airport and seaport. By 2050, build more runways; synchronized infrastructure to reach a capacity of 12 million passengers/year.
In addition, Thua Thien Hue will develop airports for seaplanes and helicopters at Tam Giang - Cau Hai Lagoon, Bach Ma National Park and in areas with tourism potential; Chan May wharf area accommodates general cargo ships, bulk cargo ships with a capacity of 150,000 tons to 200,000 tons or larger when qualified; Thuan An wharf area accommodates ships with a capacity of up to 5,000 tons; Phong Dien wharf area accommodates general cargo ships, bulk cargo ships with a capacity of up to 50,000 tons...
In the process of urban development, the planning also orients the Northwest region to build Phong Dien central urban area associated with Dien Loc port, Phong Dien Industrial Park to develop industrial urban area as the driving force of the North of the province; the Southeast region develops Chan May area to become a type III urban area - a smart, modern city associated with Chan May - Lang Co Economic Zone...
Notably, Chan May port is being built into a container port, a tourist port, an international trade center, a world-class tourism and resort center.
“Completing urban infrastructure, economic zones and industrial zones will contribute to innovation and improving the efficiency of attracting focused investment, especially attracting large, branded investors,” Chairman Nguyen Van Phuong affirmed.
