International experts join hands to find solutions to develop an innovation ecosystem and support startups for Vietnamese students

On March 6, 2024, Hanoi University of Science and Technology (BK Holdings) in collaboration with Macquarie University - Australia organized the Seminar "Building the Future: Solutions for Developing an Innovation Ecosystem and Supporting Startups in Schools". Here, Australian and Vietnamese experts shared valuable practical experiences, challenges and opportunities in developing an innovation ecosystem and supporting startups in educational institutions. The Seminar was sponsored by the Australian Government Trade and Investment Agency - Austrade , the Vietnam National Innovation Center - NIC , the Vietnam University and College Innovation & Entrepreneurship Network - VNEI and the Hanoi Innovation and Entrepreneurship Association - HANISA.

Mr. Chris Morley (Trade and Investment Counselor) and Ms. Jen Bahen (Education and Research Counselor) - Australian Embassy in Vietnam, Ms. Ngo Thu Huong - Senior Trade Development Manager, Australian Government Trade and Investment Agency - Austrade.

In addition to experts and representatives of sponsoring units, the seminar also attracted the participation of many leaders and officials of educational institutions, businesses and students.

Nguyen Nhat Hai - Director of Digital Transformation Center, Hanoi University of Science and Technology spoke at the seminar.

Speaking at the forum, Dr. Nguyen Nhat Hai - Director of the Digital Transformation Center, Hanoi University of Science and Technology shared his experience in digital transformation in university management. He presented a digital transformation model at a number of universities in Vietnam and introduced the eHUST University Management System at Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

Dr. Nguyen Trung Dung - General Director of BK Holdings, Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Chairman of Vietnam University and College Innovation and Technology Network - VNEI shared his experience at the event.

From experience in the process of forming and developing an innovation ecosystem in university education, Dr. Nguyen Trung Dung - General Director of BK Boldings, Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Chairman of VNEI has proposed a number of models to promote innovation of universities in the world such as: Oxford University innovation plays the role of TTO (Technology Transer Office) for Oxford University (1985), Cambridge Technology Transfer Company (2006), TODAI TLO Company under the University of Tokyo plays the role of TLO/TTO (Technology Licensing Office/Technology Transer Office) (2009), thereby highlighting the need for an organization to promote innovation in universities.

At the end of the session, Professor Bruce Dowton - President of Macquarie University, Australia shared about the model of promoting innovation at Macquarie University - a university ranked 130th in the world (according to QS World University Ranking). In his speech, the Professor introduced Macquarie Park Innovation District - Australia's leading technology park, with more than 400 multinational enterprises and leading technology corporations such as Microsoft, Phillips, Canon, ... located right on the campus of the University.

To contribute to answering questions and concerns as well as forming a part of the solution in developing the Innovation Ecosystem & Science and Technology System in the School, an open discussion with experts in the field was held under the coordination of Ms. Ngo Thu Huong - Senior Trade Development Director, Australian Government Trade and Investment Agency - Austrade.

During the open discussion, practical questions and concerns and difficulties at the implementing units were raised by the delegates to Mr. Do Tien Thinh - Deputy Director of the National Innovation Center - NIC, Professor Bruce Dowton - President of Macquarie University Australia and Mr. Nguyen Trung Dung - General Director of BK Holdings and Chairman of VNEI. The experts took turns to provide solutions as well as partially resolve the difficulties in the implementation, answering questions raised by the delegates.

In addition, during the discussion, the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between the Vietnam University and College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Network - VNEI and Macquarie University of Australia also took place, promising to create many values ​​for members of the VNEI network. Accordingly, VNEI and Macquarie University of Australia are encouraged to jointly implement programs on joint research activities, joint conferences and workshops to promote the culture of innovation and transnational entrepreneurship. Above all, the two sides are committed to jointly organizing professional development activities, exchanging information and academic documents and acceleration programs to support the startup community and the Innovation Ecosystem of Universities.
