By the end of 2023, Apple officially surpassed Samsung to become the most popular smartphone brand. The Korean giant was forced to respond strongly with the flagship Galaxy S24 series.
However, it was revealed that Samsung chairman Lee Jae-yong, during a high-level meeting in early January 2024 with the group's leaders, expressed dissatisfaction with the "innovations" of the S24 series.
Recently, Samsung has also been criticized for its lack of product innovation and its “gradual upgrade” strategy. Meanwhile, Chinese phone companies have shown more flexibility with products with high specifications but priced at the same or even lower than the Galaxy series.
The South Korean conglomerate has hired a Mercedes expert to take on the role of Galaxy design chief. Rumors suggest that the Galaxy S25 will have fundamental design changes compared to the S24, S23 and S22.
Sammyfans , citing news.naver , reported that at the meeting, Chairman Lee played a pre-prepared video that included Samsung users' thoughts and wishes for the company. The video is said to have compared Samsung with its competitors.
The head of South Korea’s largest technology conglomerate stressed that the company must think from the customer’s perspective. According to gizChina.it , Mr. Lee told his subordinates that, in this respect, “Galaxy smartphones are more disappointing than iPhones.”
At the same time, he asked the division's executive presidents to optimize and deliver the services users most desire, such as generative AI and other technology trends.
Before the S25 launches, Samsung is expected to release new flip phone models around July this year.
