President Vo Van Thuong receives Pakistani Ambassador

On the afternoon of March 12, at the Presidential Palace, President Vo Van Thuong received Ms. Samina Mehtab, Ambassador of Pakistan, who came to say goodbye at the end of her term in Vietnam.

At the reception, President Vo Van Thuong congratulated the Ambassador on successfully completing his term of office in Vietnam; highly appreciated the Ambassador's positive and effective contributions in deepening the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Pakistan, especially the coordination in organizing many meaningful activities on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2022.

The President highly appreciated Ambassador Samina Mehtab for her open, friendly and dynamic spirit, and her many effective activities to promote cooperation between ministries, sectors, localities and enterprises of the two countries. Thanks to that, the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Pakistan have developed positively and steadily; cooperation areas have been expanded, especially in economics, trade, tourism and people-to-people exchange. Many Pakistani business delegations have shown interest in Vietnam to explore investment cooperation opportunities.

Pakistani Ambassador Samina Mehtab sincerely thanked President Vo Van Thuong for taking the time to meet her; expressed her gratitude to the President and relevant Vietnamese agencies for always actively supporting the Ambassador and her colleagues during their work. The Ambassador shared that her term in Vietnam has left a very deep impression on her, her family and colleagues; especially the affection, friendliness and hospitality of the Vietnamese people. This explains why Vietnam's tourism industry has developed so strongly.

“In Vietnam, I am the Ambassador of Pakistan. In Pakistan, I will be the Ambassador of Vietnam,” Ms. Samina Mehtab shared.

Emphasizing the importance of promoting economic and trade cooperation, Ambassador Samina Mehtab expressed her delight at the strong growth in bilateral trade turnover between the two countries. The Ambassador hoped that the two sides would soon organize high-level delegation exchanges to open up more opportunities to promote trade between the two countries. Referring to parliamentary cooperation, the Ambassador suggested that the two friendship groups of parliamentarians of the two countries increase exchanges and share work experiences, contributing to the achievements of Vietnam - Pakistan cooperation.

The Ambassador hopes that the two sides will further promote cooperation in other fields, especially information technology; cooperation between chambers of commerce... to further promote cooperation programs between businesses of the two countries.

Thanking Ambassador Samina Mehtab for her good feelings towards the country and people of Vietnam, President Vo Van Thuong emphasized that Vietnam always attaches importance to the cooperative relationship with Pakistan and always wishes for the relationship between the two countries to develop more strongly in the future.

Congratulating Pakistan on successfully holding the 12th General Election and electing a new National Assembly, Prime Minister and President, the President agreed with the Ambassador on the two countries increasing the exchange of high-level delegations. On this occasion, through the Ambassador, President Vo Van Thuong sent his congratulations to Mr. Asif Ali Zardari - who was recently elected President of Pakistan and respectfully invited the President to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time.

The President suggested that the two sides increase delegation exchanges at ministerial, sectoral, local, business and association levels, people-to-people exchanges and friendship parliamentary groups to enhance mutual understanding and strengthen the Vietnam-Pakistan friendship.

The two sides need to make more effective efforts to cooperate in the fields of trade and investment, and further increase bilateral trade turnover. The President hopes that with her experience, understanding and special affection for Vietnam, Ms. Samina Mehtab will continue to contribute to promoting Vietnam-Pakistan relations in the coming time.
