President Vo Van Thuong receives Spanish Ambassador

On the afternoon of December 11, at the Presidential Palace, President Vo Van Thuong received Spanish Ambassador to Vietnam Pilar Méndez Jiménez to say goodbye, ending her term of office.

President Vo Van Thuong congratulated the Spanish Ambassador on his very successful term in Vietnam, highly appreciated the Ambassador's efforts to actively contribute to the Vietnam - Spain Strategic Partnership; and congratulated Spain on successfully performing its role as rotating President of the European Union (EU) in the last 6 months of 2023.

The President was pleased to see that the bilateral relationship has developed well in all areas. Spain has become Vietnam's 8th largest trade partner in the EU and Vietnam has become Spain's largest trade partner in ASEAN. The two countries are looking forward to celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Vietnam-Spain strategic partnership and believe that bilateral cooperation will develop more strongly in the future.

The Spanish Ambassador sincerely thanked President Vo Van Thuong for taking the time to meet him, expressed his admiration for the people and country of Vietnam; congratulated and appreciated Vietnam for always promoting a peaceful, stable and developing environment in the region and the world. The Ambassador affirmed that Spain attaches importance to cooperation with Vietnam and prioritizes developing cooperative relations. Many large Spanish enterprises investing in Vietnam have achieved success, including in the fields of renewable energy, wind power, solar power, and digitalization, all of which are important areas in the development strategies of the two sides. The Ambassador expressed his belief that the Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement, the Vietnam - EU Investment Protection Agreement and recently the establishment of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam will create a foundation and strongly promote cooperative relations between the two countries.

Thanking the Ambassador for his good feelings towards the country and people of Vietnam, President Vo Van Thuong suggested that in the coming time, the two countries continue to promote high-level and all-level contacts, enhance political trust, and lay the foundation for bilateral cooperation. The President also said that the two sides need to continue promoting bilateral cooperation frameworks, especially the Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement and the Vietnam - EU Investment Protection Agreement, to further develop the relationship between the two countries. The President also hoped that the two sides would promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges, deepening the relationship between the two countries.

In the context of the two countries approaching the 15th anniversary of the Strategic Partnership, President Vo Van Thuong hopes that both sides will organize practical activities to celebrate and deepen the relationship between the two countries.
