President Vo Van Thuong receives Lao Ambassador

On the afternoon of September 21, at the Presidential Palace, receiving Lao Ambassador Sengphet Houngboungnuang to bid farewell at the end of his term, President Vo Van Thuong congratulated the Ambassador on successfully completing his mission, making an important contribution to promoting the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

Expressing his gratitude to the President for taking the time to receive him, Ambassador Sengphet Houngboungnuang expressed his delight at the fact that, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the country and people of Vietnam have achieved many important development achievements; effectively controlled COVID-19, brought the economy back to life and become one of the countries with high growth in the world. Vietnam also assumes many important regional and international roles such as ASEAN Chair 2020; Non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. The Ambassador congratulated Vietnam on strengthening and upgrading cooperative relations with a number of countries; including the United States, thereby demonstrating Vietnam's increasingly high international position and role.

The Lao Ambassador expressed his belief that Vietnam will successfully implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and become a developed, high-income country by 2045.

Ambassador Sengphet Houngboungnuang stated that in the context of many difficulties in the world, the traditional relationship between Laos and Vietnam has been increasingly consolidated and strengthened. High-ranking leaders of the two Parties and States regularly maintain mutual visits, giving many important cooperation orientations. Economic, trade and investment cooperation has grown well. The number of Vietnamese enterprises investing in Laos has increased. Exchanges between localities and people of the two countries have been enhanced.

The Lao Ambassador sincerely thanked the Vietnamese authorities for always supporting and creating favorable conditions for the Ambassador to successfully complete his duties during the past term; affirming that no matter what position he holds, he will always strive to contribute to the relationship between the two countries.

Talking with Ambassador Sengphet Houngboungnuang about the recent international and regional situation, President Vo Van Thuong emphasized that in every step of Vietnam's development, there is always support and assistance from the Party, State and people of Laos.

President Vo Van Thuong assessed that the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos have been constantly strengthened, developed and achieved substantial results in all aspects. The two sides maintain high-level contacts. Authorities, localities and people of the two countries regularly exchange and cooperate. Thanks to the effective implementation of cooperation agreements between the two countries, economic and trade cooperation between the two countries has achieved positive results; cooperation in theoretical research, training, national defense and security has made commendable progress. The two sides always support and share with each other on regional and world issues.

On the basis of an independent, self-reliant, multilateral and diversified foreign policy; being a reliable partner, an active and responsible member of the international community, in recent times, Vietnam has promoted cooperation and upgraded relations with a number of important partners in the world, thereby promoting the development of each country, contributing to the stability and development of the region and the world.

Wishing the Ambassador success in his new position, the President hopes that the Ambassador will continue to contribute more to the development of the friendship and special relationship between Vietnam and Laos.
