President To Lam meets outstanding students attending the 'Love Summer Camp' program

On the afternoon of May 28, at the Presidential Palace, President To Lam had a friendly meeting and commended students who are children of police martyrs, godchildren of the Police Women's Association, adopted children of commune police, and children of officers and soldiers who won national and international prizes in the 2023-2024 school year.

This is an activity within the framework of the "Love Summer Camp" program organized by the Ministry of Public Security on the occasion of the Month of Action for Children, International Children's Day June 1 and towards Vietnamese Family Day June 28.

Attending the meeting were Party Central Committee members: Le Khanh Hai, Head of the Office of the President; Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quoc To, Deputy Minister of Public Security; representatives of central ministries, departments and agencies and 150 outstanding students who are children of the People's Public Security Force from all over the country.

Speaking at the meeting, Major General Ngo Hoai Thu, Deputy Director of the Department of Party and Political Affairs (Ministry of Public Security) reported to the President on the results of family and children's work in the People's Public Security, affirming that the Central Public Security Party Committee and the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security pay special attention to children's work, building happy and sustainable families of police officers and soldiers. On the occasion of the Lunar New Year and the annual Month of Action for Children, the Committee for the Advancement of Women, Family and Children's Work at all levels proposed to draw from the People's Public Security Comradeship Fund to give gifts to over 3,000 children of police officers and soldiers in difficult circumstances, children with disabilities, children with Agent Orange sequelae, children of war invalids and martyrs in the People's Public Security with a total amount of over 1 billion VND; promptly encourage and reward children of officers and soldiers who are excellent students and have achieved many high achievements in studying drawn from the Ministry of Public Security's Education Promotion Fund.

Up to now, 3,084 orphans and children in difficult circumstances have been cared for and supported by the police of various units and localities, including 1,886 orphans due to various reasons who have been adopted and raised by the Women's Union at all levels. The above programs and activities have created a clear change in the awareness and role of officers and soldiers in educating and caring for children. Most of the sponsored children and grandchildren of police officers and soldiers study and practice well, are obedient and filial to their grandparents and parents, and have a sense of community building; many children have achieved high results in excellent student competitions at all levels, and are exemplary.

On behalf of the students attending the ceremony, Nguyen Ngoc Minh Thu, an 11th grader in Binh Thuan, shared her emotional story about the difficulties in life after losing both her parents at an early age and having to live with her grandmother. However, the COVID-19 pandemic also took away her closest relative and since then her life has encountered countless difficulties. In that situation, the Women's Association of Binh Thuan Provincial Police has stepped in to support her upbringing and it is the boundless love of the "mothers" that has helped her regain balance in life. The companionship of the provincial police women has helped her no longer be alone in life and is the motivation for her to strive to achieve excellent results in her studies.

Speaking at the meeting, President To Lam expressed his joy that this was his first meeting with the children in his capacity as President, and hoped that the children would continue to try harder, strive, study, practice, and implement Uncle Ho's teachings well; nurture the aspiration to build an increasingly better life; strive, practice, and achieve many results in studying, following in the footsteps of their fathers and brothers to build and protect our country to become increasingly rich and prosperous.

The President highly appreciated the initiative of the Ministry of Public Security in organizing the program “Summer Camp of Love”, implementing models of foster children of the Women's Police Association, and foster children of commune police. These are programs of profound humanitarian significance, providing opportunities for children of martyrs, children in difficult circumstances, and children with excellent academic achievements to meet, exchange, and learn with the spirit of love, sympathy, and solidarity, overcome difficulties, promote achievements to increasingly progress, and become useful citizens.

The President affirmed that implementing social policies, helping people in difficult circumstances, taking care of martyrs’ families, especially teenagers and children, is a fine tradition of our nation; at the same time, it is a consistent policy of the Party and State. Our Party, State and people have, are and will always give all their love and the most precious things to children with the spirit of “Children are like buds on a branch”.

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, the President commended the officers and soldiers of the People's Public Security, the People's Army, social organizations, authorities at all levels and the people who have directly sponsored, adopted and taught thousands of children in difficult circumstances, and praised the children of martyrs, children in difficult circumstances, children with national and international achievements, who, with their strong will and determination, have overcome their circumstances and achieved high academic achievements.

The President emphasized that under the leadership of the Party and the State, with the participation of the entire political system, many activities to protect, care for and educate children have been very practical, demonstrating creativity, dedication, and pioneering spirit for the community and for a better life for children, such as the programs "Spring for Children", "Smile Surgery", "Going to School with Children"... These are very practical programs that have supported children in many aspects, from physical to mental, helping them overcome difficulties and access conditions for comprehensive development.

Referring to the work of education, training and care for the young generation, the President suggested that the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union focus on leading the Unions at all levels to actively and proactively implement and participate in monitoring the 2016 Law on Children; effectively perform the role of an organization representing the voices and aspirations of children; promptly reflect, propose, recommend and participate in solving social issues related to children, especially preventing and combating school violence, injuries and child abuse.

Regarding the Vietnam Women's Union, the President said that it is necessary to actively perform its role and responsibility in supporting parents in taking care of the health, education and protection of children, especially girls, while continuing to launch, maintain and effectively spread practical movements and models in caring for and supporting children, especially children of war invalids, martyrs, poor children and children in difficult circumstances. The President also requested the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs to effectively carry out tasks related to children in the National Target Programs for the 2021-2025 period and the National Action Program for Children for the 2021-2030 period.

According to the President, the police and military forces need to continue to closely coordinate with agencies and organizations in the political system; mobilize the active participation of the people, create a combined strength to improve the effectiveness of child care, education and protection; at the same time, maintain and implement practical programs and movements to support children in difficult circumstances, children of martyrs, especially in extremely difficult areas, ethnic minority areas, border areas and islands.

On behalf of the Central Public Security Party Committee and the Ministry of Public Security, Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quoc To expressed his gratitude for the affection and attention of the Party, the State, and especially the affection of the President himself towards the People's Public Security force and the work of family and children in the People's Public Security; at the same time, he pledged to continue to concretize and effectively implement the directives and promote the achieved results in family work, social security, care for the children of martyrs, godchildren, and adopted children of the Commune Public Security, contributing to further embellishing the fine tradition of the heroic Vietnam People's Public Security force "forgetting oneself for the country, serving the people".

On this occasion, the President also presented gifts to children of police martyrs, godchildren of the Police Women's Association, adopted children of communal police, and children of officers and soldiers with excellent achievements in study and training.
