On the evening of January 30, in Hanoi, President Vo Van Thuong and his wife hosted a solemn reception for Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. and his wife, on the occasion of his State visit to Vietnam.

Speaking at the reception, President Vo Van Thuong expressed that the first visit to Vietnam by the President and his wife took place on the eve of the traditional Tet holiday of the Vietnamese people, in the atmosphere of spring, bringing to the country and people of Vietnam the sincere and warm feelings of the country and people of the Philippines.

That adds confidence in a bright future, opens up new prospects, and further strengthens the friendship and good cooperation between Vietnam and the Philippines, towards the 10th anniversary of the Strategic Partnership (2025) and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (2026).

The President said that the country and people of the Philippines have long been close to the Vietnamese people. The land of a thousand islands with diverse cultures, many famous landmarks, vibrant festivals, open and friendly Filipino people... always attracts Vietnam and the world.

Vietnam and the Philippines are neighbors and both are ASEAN members, have similar population sizes, have a long history of maritime trade, and proudly share common values ​​of nature, history, culture and vision for the prosperity and happiness of the people, for a sustainable and prosperous ASEAN.

The President was pleased to note that over the past 50 years, through the ups and downs of history, political trust has been cultivated by the efforts of generations of senior leaders and all levels of the two countries.

That is the foundation for the two sides to build open and deep cooperation, achieving many results in the fields of politics, diplomacy, economy, defense - security, maritime, agriculture, fisheries, education - training, culture, tourism, people-to-people exchange... and the prospect of expanding to new, potential fields...

As two dynamic and complementary economies, the President believes that two-way trade turnover will soon reach 10 billion USD in the near future.

“I believe that the major directions and measures to further promote the relationship between the two countries, the documents and agreements reached during the President's visit this time will be effectively and substantially implemented by both sides, bringing the strategic partnership between Vietnam and the Philippines to a new height, for the happiness and prosperity of the people of the two countries, making an important contribution to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world,” the President expressed.

With both countries being active members of ASEAN, the President said that the two countries are connected by common values, common vision, common determination, working together to overcome contemporary and global challenges, uniting to build an independent, self-reliant and resilient Southeast Asia, a unified and sustainably developing ASEAN community.
