Choose school, note tuition fees

Báo Đại Đoàn KếtBáo Đại Đoàn Kết13/02/2025

Tuition fees of universities for students entering the 2025 enrollment period will continue to increase according to the roadmap specified in Decree 97/2023 of the Government.

In 2025, the National Economics University plans to increase tuition fees for all regular majors by 2-3 million VND compared to last year. Specifically, tuition fees for regular programs in the 2025-2026 school year will range from 18 million VND to 25 million VND per academic year depending on the major (last year tuition fees were from 16-22 million VND per year). For application-oriented programs or programs in English, the school has not announced the collection rate. The school also clearly stated the roadmap for increasing tuition fees for students in the 2025-2026 course to a maximum for each year and implemented according to Decree No. 81/2021 of the Government.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry said that the school's tuition fees for the 2024-2025 school year will average around 32-33 million VND/year (general program) and 40-45 million VND/year (English enhancement program). In the 2025-2026 school year, the school's tuition fees will be built based on the framework of Decree 97/2023 but will increase by no more than 5% compared to the previous school year.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport informed that tuition fees for the 2025-2026 school year for newly admitted students are expected to range from over 13 to over 47 million VND/year, an increase of about 10% compared to the previous school year.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade collects tuition fees for each course, so the average tuition fee does not increase each year throughout the entire course. The tuition fee for the 2025-2029 course is expected to increase by 3-7% compared to the 2024-2028 course, about 108-130 million VND/4 years of study.
Some universities are expected to increase tuition fees due to the change in school type in the coming school year, while the disclosure of tuition fees by each school is very different. Some schools calculate by credit, some by semester, some by year or the total course. Candidates and their families should carefully study the tuition fees and tuition increase roadmap of each school to prepare for the long term in 4-5 years of university study. Especially with schools that announce tuition fees by semester, you need to pay attention because there are schools that arrange up to 3-4 semesters per school year.

For private universities, tuition fees are also very different. Like last year, schools charge tuition fees from under 20 million VND to nearly 200 million VND/school year. In particular, majors that have passed quality accreditation of public universities can also determine their own tuition fees according to the socio-economic standards issued by the school, regardless of the regulations of Decree 97. Parents also need to carefully research. At the same time, the school's enrollment plan also needs to clearly inform about the expected tuition fees for each year to avoid the school suddenly increasing them.

A suggestion from the schools is that there should be a diverse scholarship fund for students with good academic performance, poor students, etc. and the current student credit policy is quickly disbursed when completing the procedures, which is an opportunity for candidates, even those with difficult family circumstances, to study at university according to their wishes and interests.
Besides, according to Associate Professor Dr. Pham Thu Huong - Vice Principal of Foreign Trade University, currently many candidates are still wondering between choosing a major, choosing a school based on passion, interests or majors that tend to bring good income, promotion opportunities in the future. From practical experience, Ms. Huong believes that if candidates have all the conditions to be able to pursue their passion, interests without having to think about other factors such as current financial capacity, future job opportunities... then choosing a major based on interests is appropriate. In case we still have to consider the conditions to ensure life, other factors, then look at this issue positively. Let's turn hobbies, let's turn passion into motivations, opportunities in the profession that we are in.

“In the context of a constantly changing society with many factors that we cannot foresee, I think that each person must prepare the conditions to be ready to adapt. At university level, you should approach the field on a broad scale. At the same time, you must nurture your ability to learn throughout life, thereby ensuring that you choose a major and career according to your interests but also be ready to adapt to changes in the market” – Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Thu Huong expressed her opinion.
