The Cong Viettel Club will leave Hang Day Stadium to choose a new destination in the 2024 - 2025 season. The Hanoi People's Committee has issued an official document on this issue, after a period of time when all three teams, The Cong Viettel, Hanoi and Hanoi Police (CAHN), shared the Hang Day home stadium in the 2023 and 2023 - 2024 seasons.
Initially, all three teams sharing Hang Day Stadium wished to continue playing there, although over the past several months, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), Vietnam Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) and representatives of the three teams have held many meetings to agree on this issue.
However, according to the regulations of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), member federations will be stripped of their Asian tournament spots if there are three or more clubs choosing the same stadium as their home stadium (each stadium is only allowed a maximum of two teams). In Vietnam, as mentioned above, Hang Day Stadium was chosen as the home stadium by Hanoi, CAHN and The Cong Viettel at the same time. Therefore, one of the three teams was forced to leave.
On the afternoon of July 19, the VFF Executive Committee will meet to have a final answer for the 3 teams and have an official letter responding to the AFC's request. And The Cong Viettel Club will be the team that will look for another home field, while Hanoi Club and CAHN Club will continue to use Hang Day as their home field in the 2024-2025 season. It is expected that The Cong Viettel Club will choose to have its headquarters at Thanh Tri Stadium, also located in Hanoi.
Today (July 19), Coach Nguyen Duc Thang's team completed the registration procedures for the season, including registering the competition venue. The procedure when submitting the registration documents to VPF requires a contract to rent the competition venue.
The Viettel The Cong Club experienced a turbulent 2023-2024 season when it changed its "general". The army team only finished fifth in the V-League, lower than the target set at the beginning of the season, and was eliminated in the semi-finals of the National Cup. Hanoi Club finished third in the V-League and second in the National Cup. Meanwhile, CAHN Club only finished sixth in the V-League and was eliminated early in the National Cup.
Thus, despite heavy investment, all three teams based in Hanoi came away empty-handed last season. This result is in contrast to the 2023 season, when the three teams in the capital occupied the top three positions on the V-League rankings.
