The exhibition “Hai Phong – France Heritage” is an activity to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations since April 12, 1973 and the 10th anniversary of the establishment of strategic partnership between Vietnam and France since September 25, 2013. In addition, it aims to raise awareness of the role, significance and importance of preserving French architectural works in the core urban area of ​​Hai Phong city, contributing to promoting the cultural and historical architectural values ​​of Hai Phong.

Attending the opening ceremony were Ms. Sophie Maysonnave, Counselor for Cooperation and Cultural Activities, Embassy of France in Vietnam; Associations, organizations, domestic and foreign experts. On the side of Hai Phong city, there were comrades: Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Khac Nam, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports Tran Thi Hoang Mai, and representatives of leaders of relevant departments, agencies, and units.

Speaking at the opening of the Exhibition, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Khac Nam said: After more than 100 years, the architectural works in the Central Urban Area of ​​Hai Phong City are still almost intact, preserved and promoted in use, proving their lasting vitality over time. With more than 300 villas, of which more than 100 have unique architecture and cultural and historical values, contributing to the integrity of an urban heritage. All of the above works are valuable assets, forming the living environment of the people of the Port City, contributing to the unique and unmistakable appearance of Hai Phong City. That is also one of the potentials, strengths, foundations and resources for Hai Phong to develop its socio-economy, especially developing cultural tourism.

The Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee affirmed that preserving and conserving cultural and historical works is not only to protect past values, but also to further cultivate those values, becoming more civilized, more valuable both materially and spiritually. Approaching French culture through French architectural works will contribute to raising awareness of preserving, conserving and promoting architectural heritage. On that basis, finding a common voice, at the same time recommending and proposing effective opportunities and solutions with long-term and sustainable nature to preserve and promote the value of these heritages, making them shine, and at the same time showing respect of future generations for historical values.

The exhibition takes place from April 26 to 30, 2024, displaying 65 photo sets with 570 images with the following contents: city planning maps through the periods (1874, 1885, 1926, ...); the expansion and development of the city and the City Planning to 2040, vision to 2050; public spaces (main streets, squares, ...); the new political - administrative center of the city; typical valuable architectural works in Hai Phong city are classified into groups: educational works, religious works, villa works ...; some illustrative images of conservation work in some cities in France and Hanoi; some illustrative images of the Opening Ceremony of the exhibition in Hai Phong; some images of the world natural heritage of Cat Ba archipelago.

VOV.VN - Having existed for more than 100 years, some French architectural works built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in Hai Phong are still preserved and become attractive destinations for tourists when coming to the port city.
