From November 9 to November 17, the Government Guest House (formerly the Bac Bo Palace) opened its doors to visitors for the first time within the framework of the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024.
The Tonkin Palace was built in 1918, with French architectural style, and was once called the Palace of the Governor of Tonkin; Palace of the Imperial Envoy of Tonkin.
The building witnessed many historical milestones in both the resistance wars against the French and the American invaders. In 1945, President Ho Chi Minh came here to work, the building was called Bac Bo Phu.
The bullet holes on the front fence of the building were highlighted by the artists, thereby emphasizing the historical vestiges of December 1946.
The Bac Bo Palace has three floors (including a basement) but only part of the first floor is open to visitors. Visitors can learn about the building through posters on the walls.
Architectural details from the French colonial period such as the symmetrical wooden staircase system with patterned railings, large door frames, floor tiles and delicate decorative lights are still preserved intact.
Not only is it an ancient architectural work, Bac Bo Palace is also the place to hold many important events such as foreign reception activities of the Party, State and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Locals and foreign tourists are eager to explore the architectural space and history of the building.
Ms. Ngoc from Hanoi and her family waited for about 30 minutes to be guided to explore the space inside the Bac Bo Palace. "I have passed by the building many times but this is the first time I have set foot inside. The Creative Design Festival has brought people closer to the city's iconic buildings," she shared.
"This is the first time I have stepped inside the Bac Bo Palace and I am truly moved and moved when I can admire and read historical documents about this building," said a tourist from Russia.
Dien Hong flower garden area (also known as Con Coc flower garden) opposite the front of Bac Bo Palace has an elevated area for visitors to take panoramic souvenir photos with the building.
The Northern Palace will be open until November 17 to welcome visitors.
