Vietnam's best U17 player wants to beat U17 Australia

At the 2025 AFC U17 Championship finals, the Vietnam U17 team is in Group B with matches scheduled against Australia U17 (April 4), Japan U17 (April 7) and UAE U17 (April 10).

Facing opponents that are considered superior, head coach Cristiano Roland is still confident in the competitiveness of U17 Vietnam.

The 49-year-old coach said the challenge for Vietnam U17 is huge. But the team has prepared carefully and is determined, striving towards the goal of passing the group stage to win a ticket to the 2025 U17 World Cup.

The spirit of desire and belief in victory from the head coach has spread to the young players.

After the training session on the morning of April 3, Vietnam time, the best midfielder of the 2024 National U17 Tournament, Dau Hong Phong, said that the Vietnamese U17 players are ready both physically and tactically. At the same time, they are determined to achieve the best results in the race for a ticket to the U17 World Cup.

Hong Phong said: "We always try our best to implement the right tactics and training plan. The whole team will unite to aim for victory against U17 Australia. We always want to win all 3 points in every match.

Personally, I also aim to fulfill my role well if I have the opportunity to play, contributing to the victory of my team."

Dau Hong Phong is currently one of the important central midfielders in the Vietnam U17 team. He is highly appreciated for his ability to control and distribute the ball flexibly.

At the 2024 National U17 Tournament, Phong made a great contribution to helping Hanoi U17 win the championship and personally received the title of Best Player of the Tournament.

During the training days in Saudi Arabia before the 2025 AFC U17 Championship, coach Cristiano Roland paid special attention to discipline in playing style and precision and mobility in coordinated attack and defense situations.

Besides being strict on the training ground, the Brazilian coach also always cares, encourages and motivates his players. He believes that U17 Vietnam will create surprises against higher-rated opponents and complete the set goals.

According to FIFA's decision, from 2025, the U17 FIFA World Cup will be held annually instead of every two years. At the same time, the number of participating teams will increase from 24 to 48, in which Asia will be given 8 places to participate.

This means that the 8 teams that reach the quarter-finals of the 2025 AFC U17 Championship will qualify for the U17 World Cup.
