“The project aims to meet the increasing demand for container cargo exploitation, helping the loading and unloading of wharf equipment, transporting goods between wharves, yards and vice versa to be convenient and in line with the planning and development orientation of Da Nang Port”, Mr. Tran Le Tuan - General Director of Da Nang Port emphasized.

According to Mr. Tran Le Tuan, recognizing the trend of containerization of seaports early, the leadership of Da Nang Port quickly focused its development strategy on container services, considering container goods as the main commodity, gradually building Da Nang Port into the largest and most modern container port in the Central region.

The project to build the yard behind wharfs 4 and 5 of Tien Sa port has been completed, combined with the existing warehouse system at Tien Sa Port Enterprise and its member companies, increasing the total area of ​​Da Nang Port to nearly 30 hectares. The project also equips 4 ERTG cranes and accompanying technical infrastructure, meeting the needs of serving container ships up to 50,000 DWT and general cargo ships up to 70,000 DWT, and passenger ships with a capacity of 168,000 GT.

“Da Nang Port has identified developing services for container ships, passenger ships and large tonnage ships as key points to differentiate and affirm its position. The investment in the construction of the project behind wharfs 4 and 5 of Tien Sa port demonstrates Da Nang Port’s commitment to orienting the development of the Port towards container ship, cruise ship and large tonnage ship services,” said Mr. Tran Le Tuan.

Therefore, the project has received great support and consensus from Vietnam National Shipping Lines, Da Nang City People's Committee, central and local functional units. In particular, Vietnam National Shipping Lines plays an important role in supporting the project implementation through orientation, capital provision, etc.

Mr. Tran Le Tuan also said that in recent years, Da Nang Port has continuously invested in machinery and developed human resources to meet the increasing demands of customers. This has contributed to increasing the volume of goods through Da Nang Port in the period of 2015 - 2023 by an average of 12%/year (of which, container goods grew by an average of 15%/year).

Average revenue growth during this period is 12%, pre-tax profit growth is 11%/year. In 2023 alone, the output through the Port will reach 12.2 million tons, an increase of 190.58% compared to 2015. Of which, container output always accounts for more than 60% of the structure of the proportion of goods through the port, in 2023 it increased by 254.75% compared to 2015.
